Handling cellular concrete - you should know that

Aerated concrete is also relatively easy to work by laymen. When walls but also some things must be respected. What are these and what tools are needed to process aerated concrete is explained in the following article.

The water barrier

Aerated concrete absorbs a lot of water due to its material properties and then dries only very slowly. Therefore, a corresponding water barrier during processing is fundamentally important.

The insulating layer can either consist of a special insulating film, or be made of weldable roofing felt.

Handling cellular concrete - you should know that: cellular

Insulating foil is rough and also prevents the superstructure from slipping. A layer of cement mortar must be applied both to the foundation walls and to the film to compensate for unevenness and to prevent the film from slipping. A multilayer film structure is recommended.

Weldable roofing felt can also be used as a horizontal barrier. Prior to this, however, an insulating layer must be applied to the foundation walls. The protrusion over the Grundmauerkante must be at least 5 cm as with insulating film.

Process thin-bed mortar properly

An order in exactly the same layer thickness is absolutely necessary for the bricking of plan stones. Depending on the required layer thickness therefore a mortar carriage is practically indispensable. The mortar sled must be designed for the respective stone width.

Other tools

  • KIT trowel
  • Saw and angle for cutting stones
  • rubber hammer
  • spirit level
  • special agitator for the drill

If no mortar carriage is used, the use of a special KIT trowel designed for the respective seam width and stone width is highly recommended.

The thin-bed mortar must always be mixed with a special agitator to avoid air bubbles in the mortar. On stirring with a particularly low speed is to pay attention.

The stones must always be placed exactly perpendicular to the wall to make the seam joints as small as possible. After setting, always tap with the rubber mallet and check the fit of each individual stone with the spirit level.

Non-uniformities, even when mortar application, continue over the entire wall and endanger the load capacity and statics of the wall.

The cutting of stones is best done with a commercial saw and with the help of an angle. This makes exact cuts possible.
