Paper foil - ideal barrier reason

Whether at an old fireplace, which is heavily scuttled, or on a wall, which is attacked by saltpetre, there is hardly a more effective barrier reason than aluminum foil. But aluminum foil on a wall may also cause new problems. So what you should look for when wallpapering aluminum foil and of course, how exactly it is done, we will show you right here.

Step by step wallpaper aluminum foil

1. Eliminate damage

If there are larger holes in the wall that you want to paper with aluminum foil, they must be filled in advance. On a normal wall, plaster is usually enough for this. However, if it is a saturated chimney, a special filling mortar may be necessary.

2. Cut aluminum foil

Whether you use special broader aluminum foil from the hardware store or the normal aluminum foil from the kitchen, you should first cut the strips to fit. There is also aluminum foil in the hardware store, which is coated on the outside with paper. This can later better paint or paper than normal aluminum foil.

3. Apply adhesive

If you use a special adhesive, such as Ovalit-T, it must be applied with a fine toothed spatula. But you can paint a special paste on the wall with a quast as usual. You should not use too much paste as this will swell out at the edges.

4. Embed aluminum foil

Press the cut strips of aluminum foil into the adhesive and make sure that especially the edges and corners are pressed well into the adhesive. You can use a wallpaper brush or a paint roller to press the film into the adhesive bed. If you want to seal a particularly damp or soaked area, you should additionally seal the joints of the film with a sealant.

Tips & Tricks

If there is any damage to a chimney that is still in use, it is important to have the chimney checked. The destruction damage can have strongly attacked the substance of the chimney. The moisture and the tar contained in the chimney can become a life-threatening combination in a chimney. At least the chimney sweep should have a look inside before sealing the chimney with aluminum foil.
