Inflate an air mattress with the vacuum cleaner

Not everyone has an air mattress pump at home. But do not panic, you do not have to press your lips to the valve and blow your lungs out. There are alternative ways to inflate an air mattress without a pump. For example with a vacuum cleaner. Learn step by step how to inflate your air mattress with a vacuum cleaner.

Three variants to use the vacuum cleaner as an air pump

A vacuum cleaner can be used in various ways to inflate an air mattress:

  • Vacuum cleaner with blower function
  • Use air outlet at the vacuum cleaner bag inlet
  • Use louvers on the vacuum cleaner body

Vacuum cleaner with blower function

Some vacuum cleaners, especially industrial ones, not only suck, they also blow. If your vacuum cleaner has such a feature: Congratulations, that will make it much easier for you to inflate your air mattress. Remove the attachment on the vacuum cleaner head and attach it to the open valve of your air mattress with a painter's crepe or even better insulating tape. Turn on the blower function and your air mattress will fill with air.

Use the air outlet on the vacuum cleaner bag inlet for inflating

This method needs a little more preparation, but should work as well in the end. You proceed as follows:

1. Remove the vacuum cleaner bag

Open your vacuum cleaner and take out the vacuum cleaner bag. Remove any dirt so that they do not get into your air mattress.

2. Connect the vacuum cleaner hose

Remove the vacuum cleaner hose or, if available, use an extension. Attach it to the exit to which the vacuum cleaner bag is attached with tape or painter's crepe (less airtight). This is where the vacuum cleaner blows air!

3. Connect the vacuum cleaner

Place the vacuum cleaner hose as airtight as possible on the air mattress valve as described above and switch on the vacuum cleaner.

Use louvers on the vacuum cleaner body

This method is the most complicated and possibly less efficient, because there are many more places where the air can escape.

1. Seal louvers

Put a tough, air-tight bag over all louvers in the vacuum cleaner. If you are not sure what they are, connect your vacuum cleaner and test with one hand where the air escapes. Stick the bag with tape as airtight as possible.

2. Connect the vacuum cleaner hose

Then cut a hole in the bag the size of the vacuum cleaner hose diameter. Remove the vacuum cleaner hose and put it in the hole. Stick it with tape or tape as airtight as possible.

3. Inflate the air mattress

Then connect the other vacuum cleaner hose end to your air mattress valve and switch on the vacuum cleaner.
