A borehole creates independence

While almost every type of well has several limitations in terms of operational capability and positioning, the well is the most versatile. It can pump water from any height and adapt to any volume. The technical effort, including heavy equipment ensures proper installation for a long functioning and independence from the public water supply.

The most flexible fountain type

Among all possible types of wells, the well is the most complex to create. While a hammering or driving well can easily be built by oneself and also the flushing of a well can be carried out relatively quickly and without much equipment expenditure, the borehole must be drilled properly and then plumped.

A key advantage of the well is the ability to be suitable for any well depth. The well type allows the drilling of deep wells of up to several hundred meters. Several filter tubes in the construction of the drill well allow the pumping of groundwater from several levels simultaneously, which significantly increases the achievable volume.

Safe and clean drinking water supply

By basically unlimited depth of the well, so-called deep water can be achieved. This filtered through many layers of soil water is very clean and is suitable to be used as process water and drinking water. Impact or ramming wells with their maximum depth of around seven meters do not always provide drinking water quality.

The expense of drilling a well entails costs that are higher than other types of wells. Even if a borehole is built by yourself, the financial expense is high. In addition to the costs of hiring a well drill, further heavy equipment must be procured for the subsequent rinsing and pulling of the well pipe.

Calculation and independence

In order to be able to seriously estimate the costs of drilling a well, the water requirements and comparison costs for the conventional water supply must be taken into account. In particular, the cost of a deep well is often in an area that, from an economic point of view, is not an option for a private property. In this case, more of an "ecological luxury" is the decisive argument.

In order to determine whether a well being drilled is worthwhile or whether a hammering well is the more appropriate alternative, all connection options for the pumped water and its consumption values ​​should be checked and quantified.

As a guideline, it can be assumed that with a complete drinking water and service water supply, a well from the unit of a two-storey detached house from four household members and an irrigated property size from around 500 square meters, a well makes economic sense. The basis of the investment should be the time of amortization of the funds raised between five and ten years.

Tips & Tricks

Calculate conservatively by taking the current tap water prices as a basis. Possible and expected price increases shorten the time of cost amortization accordingly. The current privatization efforts in the drinking water market can be observed with a private well and ignored if necessary.
