Rinse an old floor heating: These costs are incurred

Old underfloor heating systems with PE plastic and plastic pipes that are not oxygen-tight tend to become sore over the years. A professional rinse frees the pipes and returns the heater to its old capacity, in case there is no further damage. How does it work - and how much does it cost?

When should a floor heating be flushed?

Of silting affected are particularly underfloor heating from the 80s. The heat output decreases at some point, often only selectively. However, the cooler areas continue to expand, as the sludge increases.

In this case, not enough warming water flows through the heating circuit because the pipes are clogged. Iron pipes may also be subject to internal corrosion, which, like sludging, is due to the ingress of air.

In such cases, the heating engineer will probably suggest that you flush the underfloor heating in order to clear all the pipes and stop further corrosion.

How does flushing a floor heating work?

The expert will flush the underfloor heating with a water-air mixture under strong pressure using a flushing compressor. As a rule, it performs heating circuit for heating circuit and separates the individual areas during flushing.

What are the costs for flushing the heating system?

The individual specialist companies set the prices for the flushing of underfloor heating free, so there are large cost differences in this area. There are also regional price differences.

For a detached house with 150 to 200 square meters of heated floor space you pay about 600-2500 EUR, yes by provider. On average, the service costs about 1,000 EUR.

A concrete cost example

A homeowner has his muddy underfloor heating from the year 1985 flushed by flushing compressor. The total heated area in this house is 180 square meters.

Complementary measures to prevent further siltation

Heating flushing should be done very rarely, because in this way new oxygen-rich water comes into play, which in turn promotes siltation. Ask the specialist in your heating company for the installation of an air and sludge separator in your system.

The material costs for such a system are around 250 EUR. In the future, if the water in your underfloor heating system is deprived of oxygen in this way, the sludge will be reduced - and the manually emptied sludge separator will remove the last remains of sludge.

Tips & Tricks

As a supplementary precautionary measure for flushing the underfloor heating, it is advisable to ensure optimum system pressure conditions during regular maintenance. So only a little oxygen can dissolve in the water.
