Mount angle valve

An angle valve can be found in every apartment and in every house. Whether new building or the replacement of the old valve, for many home improvement is sometime the assembly of an angle valve. A manual for mounting of an angle valve, we have created here for you.

Angle valves in a household

The angle valve connects the domestic water installation with the various fittings in the household. Therefore, it may be that everywhere here is such an angle valve:

  • Toilet, at the cistern
  • Bathroom, under the sink
  • Kitchen, at the water connections at the siphon
  • washroom

Instead of installing new possibly repair

The angle valve is a simple valve. Depending on the water quality (possibly sandy), a corner valve may leak. If necessary, you can disassemble and repair the old angle valve or you can install a new valve.

Different angle valves for mounting

Of course, there are many different angle valves that you can install. The most important distinction for you is between conventional and self-sealing angle valves. Self-sealing sounds really comfortable, but you should not discourage such valves. The problem: they do not always close after removing and reassembling. On the other hand, you can seal and install an ordinary angle valve with the appropriate sealant.

Step by step instructions for mounting an angle valve

  • angle valve
  • sealing hemp
  • sealing paste
  • possibly sealing tape
  • possibly new seals for line or hose connections
  • Wrench (fork) in matching size (17 and 19 mostly)
  • small pipe wrench or water pump pliers
  • solid rag
  • Bucket for dripping water

1. Preparation: turn off the water

To do this you must first turn off the water. Depending on the installation, the main tap for the relevant water pipe can be installed in the living area or centrally. After shutting off the water, check for water by briefly opening the water tap. Then close the angle valve.

2. Remove the old angle valve

The screw connections of the connection lines or hoses for the fittings are union nuts. These are designed either as hexagon or knurled nut. You can grasp knurled nuts well with the water pump pliers, other hexagon nuts with the appropriate open-end wrench. When removing the respective rubber seal can fall out. Therefore, the bucket should already be under the angle valve. Then the seals fall into the bucket and quickly find themselves.

The body of the angle valve is constructed like a square. Here also fits the open-end wrench in the appropriate size. Instead of a fork wrench, you can also use a small pipe wrench or the water pump pliers. You need the cloth to place it between the angle valve and the jaws. Thus, the chrome surface of the valve can not be scratched. After a slightly more powerful opening of the connection you should now be able to unscrew the angle valve by hand.

3. Install and assemble the new angle valve

Place the rosette on the angle valve so that the tiles cut to the connection are not visible later. Then wrap the hemp tape around the connection thread and, if necessary, use the sealing paste. Now screw on the angle valve. With three to four turns, the setting of the valve should be done. Now the valve with the wrench or one of the pliers is tightened with feeling. Do not forget the cloth so as not to damage the new chrome surface.

4. Connecting the fittings

Now insert the new gaskets into the connecting pipes or hoses. Then tighten them too.

5. Tightness test and water turn on

Make sure the angle valve is closed and turn on the main water tap again. Now check the valve for leaks. Everything fits after attaching, you can now open the angle valve and use your fittings again.

Tips & Tricks

An angle valve is also required for the connection of a dishwasher. Here you will find instructions for connecting the angle valve for the dishwasher.
