Anhydrite sanded and sealed - is that possible?

Simple, minimalist floor coverings are trendy. Many therefore resort to visual screed as a substitute for the flooring. Whether this is possible with anhydrite screed, and what you have to pay attention to, read in our post.

Make a visual screed

A screed may be a good alternative to traditional floor coverings. In this case, only the screed is smoothed, easily processed and used directly as a floor covering.

The processing of the soil may include:

  • the coloring of the screed
  • the smooth sanding of the screed
  • the sanding of the screed (only special screeds)
  • the color coating of the screed

If a screed is planned for use as a screed, this must be planned from the outset. The screed must then be matched and installed accordingly.

Possible problems with anhydrite screed

Basically you have to proceed a little more prudent with anhydrite screed, if you later make it a visual screed. Unlike other types of screed, screed is even more delicate. To pay attention is definitely:

  • on the load-bearing capacity of the screed
  • on the surface hardness
  • on the grain size
  • on the structure and the pattern of the screed
  • on the moisture sensitivity of anhydrite screed

Load capacity

Anhydrite screeds are usually inherently less resilient than traditional cement screed. This is especially true if the installation is done as a liquid screed.

The screed layer must therefore first plan the screed accordingly and carry out a little more so that it can later be used as a screed.

Surface hardness and grain size

Also surface hardness and grain size must be adjusted accordingly by the screed layer. This is the only way to ensure that the anhydrite screed is able to withstand the stresses later on.
These factors do not play such an important role as subsoil - however, if the screed represents the surface of the soil, it must be taken into account.

Structure and pattern

Depending on the structure and composition, an individual pattern of the screed, which is difficult to determine in advance, results. In order to achieve a uniform, visually appealing sighting screed, it takes a lot of experience from the screed layer - here the same applies as with exposed concrete.

Alternatively, you can color the screed with appropriate means. This also requires some experience in order to actually achieve the desired end result.

moisture sensitivity

Just anhydrite screed is very absorbent and very sensitive to moisture. When coating the screed, it is therefore essential to ensure that sufficient moisture protection is ensured. Due to the strong absorbency otherwise stains.

Tips & Tricks

As a coating, only pore-filling and completely sealing coatings such as epoxy resin products or PUR are suitable. On the other hand, waxing is less recommendable and barely sufficient for surface protection.
