Alternatives to the conventional leveling compound from specialist retailers

What are the alternatives to the commercially available leveling compound? Many artisans swear, for example, on self-mixed screed. It is able to even out larger bumps and to create a correct floor that is suitable for laying carpets, tiles or many other materials. The following ingredients are needed:

  • cement
  • Equipment for mixing the ingredients such as a concrete mixer
  • an aggregate (for example 6er)
  • water
  • optionally additives

Important: the correct mixing ratio

Be sure to use the correct mixing ratio, otherwise you may experience difficulties such as poor strength of the material after processing. On the cement bags you will find information about the correct mixing ratio, if you are unsure about this. The same applies to any additives to be used, which should also be mixed in the right proportions. If you need a concrete mixer, you can of course also rent it in specialist shops or in hardware stores. For smaller quantities, but also sufficient from a drill with whisk.

The alternative screed and the processing as well as drying time

The application of screed is relatively simple and similar to that of conventional leveling compound or leveling compound. Only the drying time is usually much longer. It can be up to 30 days depending on the mixing ratio and the external conditions. Be sure to plan this time.
