Visually and / or technically restored pool table

Basically, all components of a pool table except the game plate can be restored. A damaged slate or wood panel with cracks, holes or cracks must always be replaced. In some cases, and antique tables that can be preserved, it may be possible to put a new plate on top of the old one.

Locate components and plan design

Before restoring a pool table, it is advisable to look at all the components of the table and determine the need for processing and / or repair. A pool table consists of the following individual parts or construction groups:

  • Slate or wood panel
  • felt cloth
  • bands
  • rubber cushions
  • hole pockets
  • ball networks
  • Band Marks (Diamonds)
  • Metal fittings edges / corners
  • Table frame or scaffolding
  • table legs
  • Fixing and adjusting screws

When it comes to a purely optical restoration, disassembling the pool table can often be dispensed with. Important is the protective cover of the playing surface and inner bands, which also prevents sanding dust and liquid aids such as paints or polishes.

Technology decides on meaning

If you need to repair or replace curb rubber, playing surfaces or perforated pockets as part of the restoration process, dismantling is unavoidable. In some cases, the condition of the slate or wood panel can only be assessed after removal of the felt cloth.

Whether the new referring to the pool table is sufficient or an exchange is required, decides on the effort. As with rubber bands, damage and brittleness are irreparable. For compound play surfaces, restoring, refilling and leveling the transition joints may be sufficient.

exclusion criteria

Technically, all components must be examined to see if they allow the fixed and horizontal position of the entire table. There are some damages where restoring a pool table makes no sense:

  • Swollen or dwindled wooden components
  • Warped or twisted components
  • Bended or crooked components
  • Cracks, holes and cracks in game-relevant components

Unlike other furniture and tables, every restoration follows the requirements for precise playability. Restoration must be planned from the inside out. First, the restored functionality must be guaranteed before work is done on the substructure, table legs and decorative exterior surfaces.

Tips & Tricks

If you would like to get an exceptionally beautiful and / or valuable substructure of your pool table such as carving and turning, the installation of a completely new playing area with band mirror can "save" the undercarriage.
