Repair braids on a rocking chair

In a rocking chair in the majority of cases, the seat and backrest upholstery is broken first. The braid is made of rattan, which is also known under the names Thonet or Viennese braid. It can be replaced by pigtails. For bamboo can damage a solution can often be found with a little creativity.

Replace the wickerwork

In assessing the damage, it often turns out that not only individual wicker tracks or fibers are damaged or cracked. For the effort to repair the attachment of the braid on the chair frame is crucial. If the fibers are interlaced in individual holes in the frame, they must be braided individually. Alternatively, there are rocking chairs with milled u-shaped groove, which serve as a holder for a total tissue part.

The braiding by hand is only possible for very skilled craftsmen. Specialists provide ready-made braids and the required fastening accessories for both grooved and non-grooved types of construction. Sitting and leaning surfaces are completely freed from the defective braids and a new matching braid is used.

Replace bamboo tubes individually

If the seating and leaning surfaces are made of curved bamboo or bark pipes, every single pipe has to be checked. In general, even a layman can replace damaged pipes. By watering the pipes can be made flexible and also be placed on curved course paths. By drying, they "solidify" in the desired position.
