Stick carpet tiles in a circular or L shape

In most cases, self-adhesive carpet tiles are chosen, which are coated on the bottom with adhesive. Heavier products can also be fixed with double-sided tape. The alternative is Vollverklebungen. Experts do not agree on the laying direction, especially in offset or checkered patterns.

Always fix or glue carpet tiles

In general, when bonding carpet tiles, the substrate must first be observed. It must be clean, fat-free, even and without grooved recesses. While laying on tiles and on laminate is relatively easy, laying on carpet is only conditionally recommendable.

Similar to the loose laying of carpet, carpet tiles can also be fixed with double-sided adhesive tape. A loose installation even with products whose underside is referred to as non-slip and self-adhesive, leads in most cases to "walking" or detachment of individual carpet tiles.

Controversial installation orientation

Undisputed is the fact that carpet tiles should always be laid and glued according to the helpful arrow markings with matching pile direction. On the other hand, it is disputed how the best possible result is achieved by the starting point and gluing process. For discussion is the beginning of the center bonding or the so-called construction site method with an L-shaped approach. Both variants have advantages and disadvantages:

Start in the middle

In the middle of the room gluing the first carpet tile is placed as a reference copy. In this case, a position can be measured which represents a divider by the individual plate sizes, at least in one spatial direction. This creates the likelihood that a tailor-fit fitting the connection tile without cutting is possible when reaching the outer tile tracks. The gluing itself is performed in a circle around the reference tile. In most cases, the outer edge tiles on all four sides of the room must be cropped.

construction method

In the construction site method, two intersecting orientation lines are marked on the ground with a chalk line. The crossing point is located in a corner of the room at a distance of a tile width to the two cover walls. Starting from the side of the lines that are not inclined to the walls, the first carpet tile is "put into the intersection". From there, the two tile tracks are set up, which serve as the L-shaped reference tracks the further "investing".

Tips & Tricks

Since room walls, even in new buildings, are always crooked, you should not stick to a wall when gluing.
