Modern ceiling panels are high quality and lightweight

Many a reader may still know the wall and ceiling panels from the 1970s and 80s. Either made of thin wood, wood composites or polystyrene. These "classics" are not experiencing new popularity.

Rather, it's new manufacturing techniques and printing techniques that make stunning designs possible. A consequence of the progress is that the visible layer is very thin and yet resistant. This makes the ceiling panels light enough to be glued.

Overall, there are several ways to attach:

  • the screwing of the ceiling panels on a battens
  • the nailing of the ceiling panels on a battens
  • Tongue and groove with the nailing of small angle plates to the groove
  • the bonding of ceiling panels

When should ceiling panels be glued?

The gluing of the ceiling panels is to be regarded as a fastening technique that is not always possible. In other words: only under certain conditions ceiling panels should be glued. It should always be attempted to screw or nail down the ceiling panels on a substructure.

This is not possible or only possible with difficulty, for example on a tiled surface. On the contrary, such surfaces are very well suited for bonding the ceiling panels. But also in drywall ceilings, which are usually suspended ceilings, the gluing offers. Because here the lightweight construction makes an advantage. Even on wallpapers, the panels can be glued.

Which adhesive for gluing ceiling panels?

This question can not be answered generally. Rather, the choice of the right adhesive depends on which material your panels consist. It may be wood, wood composites, different plastics, plastic composite panels, GRP, etc. The manufacturer of the ceiling panels selected by you will either have a suitable adhesive on offer or make a recommendation.

Adhesive technology for ceiling panels

The adhesive technology can therefore differ significantly. Usually, a thin bead of glue is applied. Then follow caterpillars at a distance of 10 to 15 cm, possibly longitudinal and transverse. Again, you should follow the instructions for use and the recommendations of the manufacturer of the ceiling panels. Conventionally, the panels are then simply glued on and also do not need to be supported. Of course there are exceptions here as well.
