Dress a ceiling professionally: a guide

There are several reasons why you should dress a ceiling: the placement of special lighting is just as important as the straightening of an uneven ceiling and the application of thermal insulation. Read here how the cladding of your drywall ceiling works exactly.

Important aspects in the planning

If your rooms are not particularly high, inquire in advance with the local authority about the minimum floor space required. This is regulated differently in each state. Follow the rule so you do not have to tear everything down afterwards.

Think carefully about which electrical cables you must lay under the ceiling paneling. Plan any subsequent installation options of lamps and mark the course of the cables.

Also, the necessary openings in the new ceiling should be well planned in advance: Where exactly the lamps come from? And: must there be other passages?

1. Measuring the ceiling and planning

Before the disguising comes the thorough planning: Measure your ceiling with the rule and plan the course of basic and counter battens of your stand. Draw the entire battens with the help of the chalk line. The spirit level gives you information as to whether the old ceiling runs smooth enough or whether there is a need for improvement with compensating tiles on the stud frame.

2. Sawing and screwing on squared timbers

Screw on a longitudinal battens running in the space. Then comes the counter battens on the line, which runs across it. Cut each square timber to fit and screw it carefully at a maximum screw distance of 25 cm. Measure your construction again and again with the spirit level.

3. Mount the plasterboard

Measure the appropriate size of your plasterboard and cut it with the cutter if necessary. Use the metal rail for straight cutting. Also, use your knife to chamfer the cut edges.

4. Embellish the disguised ceiling

The disguised ceiling must now be neatly troweled and she needs a coat of underground. Now you can customize the surface according to your personal taste.

Use a wallpaper, a beautiful plaster or high-quality paint to give the new ceiling an aesthetic look. Bear in mind that plasters on plasterboard usually require a primer.

Tips & Tricks

It is best to use a cordless screwdriver with adjustable torque limiter to screw on the plasterboard. With it you sink the screws exactly in the surface.
