Click-linoleum - installation instructions: linoleum

Laying linoleum is not easy, because it has to be glued over the entire surface and individual webs must be welded together. Many do not dare to do this work and prefer to do without this great natural surface. That does not have to be.

Like laminate and parquet, there are also Linoleum in the form of panelsAnyone who is a seasoned handyman can lay it himself. This variant combines the advantages such as, hygienic, sound and heat insulating, easy-care and robust with the ability to lay this flooring quickly and easily.

Very interesting is the possibility to combine different colors and create a unique look.

Benefits of Click Linoleum

Click linoleum has the same advantages as full-surface linoleum. It is tough, sturdy and easy to clean. Advantageous, however, is the possibility to relocate without professional help. Like laminate and parquet, it is laid floating and can therefore be completely removed again. This is a huge advantage, especially in rental apartments.

It gets really interesting individual room design. Many manufacturers offer their linoleum in different colors. So personal accents can be set in the floor design.

Before the installation

As with the laying of any other flooring, the surface should be dry, clean and level. In addition, Click-Linoleum requires protection against residual moisture in the screed or rising damp. Even though it is less likely to occur on higher floors, it is always advisable to lay a vapor barrier.

Unlike laying linoleum rolls, Click-Linoleum is mounted on a hard backing and therefore requires one Sound insulation. This has the advantage that it reduces running noise and compensates for small bumps. When laying on a floor heating system, pay attention to the compatibility of the individual components. Click linoleum, as well as footfall sound insulation, are marked with the corresponding symbols.

Laying the first row

Click linoleum - first row laying

If the vapor barrier is laid and tightly glued, and the footfall sound insulation spreads, laying can begin. The direction in which click linoleum is laid depends on several factors. These are general for laminate, parquet and linoleum and can be read under installation direction.

Before laying the first row, the protruding parts are sawn off on the groove side and this side is laid out to the wall. Please adjust the last piece only after the longitudinal cut, so that the remaining piece can be used in the next row.

Since click linoleum at Temperature fluctuations expands and pulling together, an expansion joint is required around the circumference. This is aligned with spacer wedges to all sides. Especially with uneven walls, make sure that the first row is absolutely straight. This can be easily checked with a straight edge and corrected with the distance wedges.

Lay more rows

Click linoleum - place more rows

If the remainder of the first row is large enough and offset by at least 15cm from the first row push, the second row can be started. To do this, insert the piece diagonally from above and press down slightly. Always check all edges and remove loose pieces.

The next part is also just next to the first introduced, pushed down and led laterally with the bat in the first piece.

Tip for narrow spaces:

If the room is not too wide and an assistant is available, the pieces of linoleum can also be put together only on the face side and then set up as a whole row. This saves the work with the baton and protects the edges of the click connection.

Lay the last row

fit the last row

Measuring the last row often proves to be problematic and contains a lot of potential for error. But with a little trick that should certainly succeed.

  1. Place the piece to be sawn exactly on the penultimate row.
  2. Then another piece is placed under consideration of the expansion joint. and the cutting progress marked.
  3. This results in a matching remnant, which can be used with the pull bar.

Finally, all wedges should be removed and the expansion joint checked again. Now you can start with the installation of the baseboards.

Working with the train iron

If there is not enough space to put pieces together with the baton, the pull bar is used. This is available in different form and quality. The structure is basically the same and consists of a solid angled steel sheet.

The mold can be bent or welded from individual components. One side is needed to pull the linoleum piece - this should be optimally slightly wider - and a side for hitting, with which the tensile force is generated. The underside of the winder should be covered with felt or a piece of carpet to the Surface of the linoleum to protect. A DIY is quite possible and saves the rare use of the purchase.

Since when inserting the last piece of a row, as well as when attaching the last row, no space for the lumber is present here the pull bar is set and the individual pieces pulled together with light blows.

In order not to move the entire row, it is important to secure the beginning of the series with distance wedges. Often also remnants or wooden strips with appropriate strength are suitable. Since the click linoleum then rests with a longer surface, pressure points are avoided.

Adapt to heating pipes and door frames

Quite simply, a breakthrough is made for heating pipes by putting a shock to this place. Thus, a semicircle can be worked out on both pieces and the parts can be easily joined together. The expansion distance will later cover a rosette.

A clean conclusion to door frames is achieved by the frame is cut to the appropriate height. This is possible, as shown in the picture, with a saw or a multifunctional tool. If a shortening of the frames is not possible, the linoleum can also be laid with an expansion joint and later filled with appropriate jointing silicone.
