Pull off concrete: several options

After the concrete has been introduced, it often has to be stripped to obtain certain properties. It can be done differently when removing concrete. Below you will find detailed information.

When concrete has to be removed

Many concrete parts are cast in formwork. In particular, vertical concrete components such as walls, columns or struts are previously geschalt. The concrete can not and must therefore not be deducted. The removal of concrete is even more important for horizontally produced concrete components.

Floors and exposed tops

In particular, the upper end surface of standing components or the surface of concrete floors must be removed after insertion. However, there are also different tasks here:

  • Peel off to smooth the concrete surface
  • Peel off to level the concrete
  • Peeling for roughening to bring in later concrete layers

Peel off for smoothing concrete

Above all, the consistency of the concrete is important. The concrete must still be fresh, so it must not be too hard to get the surface smooth. Often, water is applied accordingly (not to be confused with the blood water of concrete). For this purpose, either Glättschwerter or smoothing spade are used.

Glättschwerter and Betonpatschen

Patschen are even wider and often equipped with additional features. This way, the surface of the concrete can be compacted with vibrating spatulas. The perfect and absolutely smooth removal requires a high degree of skill. With Glättschwertern doing semi-traveling movements that overlap at a slightly raised angle, performed. With pats, however, is pulled or pushed train by train.

The concrete consistency

However, there are also peeling works where it is important that the consistency is stiff. Consequently, even the concrete mixing of the corresponding types of concrete has a great influence on the subsequent stripping and must be taken into account accordingly.

Peel off for leveling and roughening concrete

It's not so much about smoothing. Rather, a uniformly flat surface must be created in order to be able to process the concrete further, for example by tiling the floor later. Some places can later be leveled with leveling concrete. This is liquid concrete that spreads accordingly.

When peeling, harden the concrete surface

In addition, a concrete floor to be leveled is often cured at the same time. For this, the surface must be "powdered". In the process, cement is spread over the concrete like flour on the work surface to bake bread and triturated again and again. But here no trowels are used. Instead, self-made rugs with a wide wooden strip, which is pulled horizontally over the concrete surface are suitable here.

Roughening to apply fresh to green concrete

So eventually a concrete surface can be roughened. This is often necessary when a new layer of concrete has to be applied to already hardening green concrete. In order for both concrete layers to chemically bond or set to concrete, it is important that the surface is as rough as possible. Thus, the clinker crystals of cement from both concretes can better interlock and interlock. It is better if the concrete is already hardened, so at least no fresh concrete is more.

Tips & Tricks

In addition to peeling, there are other methods that you can use to work on concrete. These include, in particular, abrasive techniques such as milling, grinding or polishing concrete. Most concrete stripping requires a high degree of experience and skill. Therefore, you should first subtract areas or areas that you do not see or are intended only for practice.
