The only disadvantage compared to a cordless screwdriver is the longer design. When buying you should pay attention to an automatic engine stop and a spindle lock. The engine stop causes the cordless drill to stop immediately when the trigger is released, which makes sense in hazardous situations such as jamming the drill. The spindle lock makes it possible to open or close the chuck with one hand, as the spindle can not be turned when stationary. The impact mechanism of a cordless percussion drill works with two toothed discs. A toothed disc is fixedly connected in the spindle direction with the housing and a toothed disc is located on the longitudinally movable drilling spindle. The cordless rotary hammer differs significantly from other cordless drilling or screwing tools. His job is to drill holes in walls, but he does not stop in front of concrete. This is due to the built-in hammer mechanism, which works much stronger than a striking mechanism. Its construction does not require much pressure to achieve rapid drilling progress - too much pressure can even do the opposite.

Unlike the hammer mechanism, the hammer mechanism does not work with toothed discs that strike against each other, but with a built-in hammer. This can be activated in different ways and works independently. It is therefore not necessary to press hard with the cordless hammer against the material to be drilled.

However, the hammer mechanism requires that the drill can move to a certain extent in the direction of impact, which is not possible with a conventional quick-action chuck. This option offers no other SDS feed. The most common size is the SDS-Quick lining, which is therefore often called SDS for short. Larger devices and most of the staplers require the SDS Max chuck. For cordless tools, however, it is rarely found due to the need for home improvement.

An additional attachable drill chuck with SDS holder allows to screw with a cordless hammer drill or to drill in wood and metal. However, due to their function, SDS feed sometimes has a clear play, which means that an exact concentricity is not given. Chucks with SDS shank are only an emergency solution and must never be used with a hammer function.

The cordless impact wrench for high torque

The battery impact wrench works fundamentally differently. In contrast to the other tools presented here, the impact wrench is not suitable for drilling, even with additional attachments. It is intended exclusively for loosening and tightening screws and nuts. Although it is also driven by the rotational movement of a motor, but this does not pass consistently to the tool used. A simple operation is a ball on a disc with several grooves. In a slight rotational movement, the ball engages in a groove and takes the disc in their rotary motion. Important note: Many tools and special lancing keys (nuts) are chrome-plated. These are not suitable for the cordless impact wrench. The sudden load causes a special stress, which can lead to deformations of the socket wrench. Chrome plated surfaces can flake off and cause injury. Therefore always use only socket wrenches for impact wrenches.
