Repair the house waterworks

More and more people install at home or in their garden, a domestic waterworks to promote the required drinking or industrial water. Thus, the number of possible defects steadily increases. In this article we explain what you need to check and repair at your domestic waterworks.

The number of domestic waterworks is also increasing the number of repairs

The domestic waterworks is used everywhere where either no or too little public water is available. This is especially the case for many gardens. In addition, many people see the domestic waterworks as an inexpensive alternative to the expensive public water of their regional provider. This also increases the number of installed domestic waterworks.

Distinction and limitation of defects and damage

But that also means more repairs to domestic waterworks. But this damage must first be distinguished:

  • Defects by connection (initial connection) of a domestic waterworks
  • Defects on a previously operated without problems plant
  • Defects after cleaning a pre-filter

Systematically inspect and repair the domestic waterworks

In order to be able to repair a domestic waterworks after the initial and failed commissioning, it is first necessary to locate the various weak points. For this it makes sense to know the structure of the plant. But also for the no longer working domestic waterworks or after a filter change or a filter cleaning the construction is relevant:

  • Foot valve (in water reservoir like well or cistern) at the bottom of the riser
  • possibly connection to a filter (for example a sand filter)
  • Connection from the sand filter to the water pump
  • from the water pump to the pressure vessel
  • from the pressure vessel via the distribution line to the tap point (s)

Possible defects and their repair

foot valve

The foot valve does not close anymore. The water flows back into the reservoir, the pump can not suck. Repair: make or change the foot valve. But it can also be clogged, since there is often a sieve here. Action: clean or renew this sieve.

The riser to the filter or pump

When cleaning the pump or reconnecting after winter, the line may have broken or leaking at a connection. This is especially true at the ports that you had to open. Now the pump takes air, the leak must be eliminated. Detailed information can be found under "Domestic Waterworks".

The water pump

Likewise, the pump may malfunction. Here come again different possibilities into consideration:

  • You must bleed the pump or the house waterworks
  • the conveyor wheel has a defect (bearing damage, etc.)
  • the existing micro-switch for the water pressure has a malfunction
  • the relay has malfunction (pump does not turn on or off)
  • Leakage at the connections
  • Pump draws air due to one of the above reasons

The pressure vessel

The pressure vessel consists of two chambers, often referred to as air and water bag. If, over time, the gas present in the air chamber escapes (air, nitrogen, etc.), the necessary pressure for switching on and off is no longer achieved. Some air tanks can be replaced, others not. This must be clarified according to the operating manual for your domestic waterworks.

The pressure vessel is also a pressure switch or pressure switch. Again, there may be a malfunction. Repairing the pressure switch is usually not, you would have to replace the defective part instead with a new part.
