Fill door frame and paint

The door frames or frames are always firmly connected to the masonry in contrast to the door leaves. Therefore, the refurbishment must be carried out on the spot. Classic damage to be removed by spatulas are drilled holes and chipped edges. In any case, the work requires perseverance and thoroughness.

Liquid and synthetic resins

Door frames are almost always made of wood or multi-purpose boards such as MDF or OSB. While multi-purpose panels are "dead", wood works. Therefore, care must be taken in the putty when adding wood to elasticity-giving additives. Products with this property are often offered as liquid wood. In the putties known as Holzkitt dominate synthetic resins, which have little or no elasticity.

Much depends on the size of the damage and the associated amount of filler to be introduced. When filling cavities up to about one cubic centimeter per hole or running meter, enough drain volume is left in the wood "around" to make future cracking unlikely. For larger filling volumes, an elastically mixed filler is required.

types of damage

Boreholes are filled with wood cement according to the manufacturer's instructions. Often there are cavities between the door frames or frames and the masonry. This can lead to endless "swallowing" spatula holes when filling. Here, a damp cork stopper, which is inserted in the appropriate diameter in the hole. By drying, it expands and forms a stable filler base during later filling.
To trowel cracks, the wells must be cleaned of any loose pieces of wood such as splinters and split pins. Helpful are small carving knives, with which the cracks and slits are cut out smooth on both sides. A slight beveling of the upper crack edges with chamfer surfaces of one to two millimeters allows the filler later better grip.

In the case of chipped, chipped or worn corners and edges, consideration must be given to whether a reinforcing aid, such as a filled-in profiled wood, is advantageous. For a few leveling compounds, a right angle metal profile can be used well as a molding aid for the putty. It can be attached with adhesive tape above and below the freshly tipped corner or edge. As a release agent, it is recommended to coat the insides with oil or soap.

Tips & Tricks

Remember the matching of colors between the door frame and the door leaf. In the case of material equality, follow the same procedure for filling, priming and painting or varnishing.
