Install a door hinge

The installation of door hinges depends on the type of door hinge. There are different technical approaches. Below we have put together for you information how to install the respective door hinge.

Numerous names, but always the door hinge is meant

Even the description of door hinges is varied and ranges from the hinges on the hinge to the door hinge. But the attachment of the door hinges can be different:

  • Door hinges that are screwed in
  • Door hinges, which are inserted and then secured laterally with a small screw
  • Door hinges, which are put on and screwed on

Fasten door hinges (room doors)

Even attaching conventional door hinges can be completely different. The most common are fishing rods, which are screwed in at right angles to the hinge. That is, the pin holding the hinge has a thread. Even here there are again different attachment concepts.

Various fastening techniques

There are fishing rods that are equipped with a conventional ISO thread. In the frame and door leaf, a corresponding hole must be drilled, then an internal thread is inserted. This threaded sleeve is self-locking against turning.

Now the hinge is screwed in. Much more often to find are hinges that are self-tapping screwed. They drill a hole of small diameter, the self-tapping thread can now be turned into the wood or composite.

In recent years, more and more door hinges with two pins can be found. One is used for fixing, the other is secured from the inside via an Allen screw. This is screwed in laterally in the frame. This is rarely used on the door leaf.

Door hinges on doors with increased safety

These ordinary door hinges are usually referred to as hinges and can be found especially in the room or room doors. Domestic and entrance doors as well as basement access doors, etc., are secured against a much more solid safety hinge.

Install a front door hinge

The structure corresponds to that of a classic hinge, only just much more stable. Brand manufacturers of such hinges often provide a template with the hinge so you can better drill the door leaf and frame. Finally, you can also use the door hinge itself as a template.

First mount on the door leaf, then on the frame

First attach the hinges to the door leaf. Then set the door leaf itself on metal or wooden profiles until the desired height or a sufficient distance to the ground is reached. The hinges, which are now bolted to the door leaf, now fold open and use them as a template for the mounting holes on the door frame or on the masonry (straight glass doors are often installed without a frame).

Now you can also attach the hinge to the frame. However, high-quality safety hinges must now be set. How to set such a hinge, we show you here. This is important, because after setting the covers must still be placed.

Pay attention to the order of the covers after setting

These are at the top and bottom of the hinge (cylindrical) one cover each and then one for the entire hinge. The smaller covers often fix the large hinge cover, so they have to be fixed at the very end. The manufacturer's instructions show exactly how to proceed.
