The foundation for cultivation

Housing is expensive and at the same time often not enough for existing buildings - at least according to the requirements of the residents. A cheap extension from the terrace to habitable cultivation is often a relatively inexpensive alternative. But every cultivation needs a foundation. What is to be considered in the foundation for the cultivation, you will find below.

Cultivation does not equal cultivation

Planning is based on what should be grown and how. Maybe you should already plan for the future, if it can not be ruled out that the existing extension, for example, will be extended by another floor or a roof terrace.

Depending on these possibilities, this should be taken into account in the foundation in any case, since otherwise the future project may possibly no longer be carried out because of an insufficient foundation.

Different types of attachments require different foundations

Then the legal aspects have to be clarified which, depending on what is to be grown, can be completely different:

  • Cultivation of living space at house height with roof cultivation
  • Cultivation of a separate (closed) living space)
  • storage area
  • Terrace or conservatory

Take into account planning permission

Depending on the state and building project, it may be necessary to obtain a building permit in advance. The planning permission in turn requires a planning architect. In this case, the requirements for the foundation with the architect must be agreed within the requirements. For smaller construction projects such as a terrace or a winter garden, depending on the state, no or no building permit is required.

Various versions of the foundation during cultivation

There are also differences in such an attachment when executing the foundation. Thus, if necessary, a strip foundation may be sufficient, which is supplemented by a base plate.

Maybe even a record foundation is necessary. In addition, around the floor plan of the foundation for cultivation, a frost apron may be necessary. In any case, the fundamental frost resistance from the foundation must be taken into account.

Combine existing and new foundations

For large construction projects such as an extension of the living space, it may also be necessary to connect the existing foundation to the new foundation. The connection is then over Baustahlarmierung. How this should be carried out in concrete terms, should be clarified with a structural engineer or architect, who has anyway due to the building permit required for large construction projects to create a corresponding blueprint.

Structure of the foundation

Otherwise, the procedure is similar to the conventional creation of a foundation. A gravel layer is to be applied to the compacted subsoil and also compacted. After sealing, a layer of cleanliness and possibly insulation are applied. Then only the actual foundation.

Tips & Tricks

Depending on the cultivation project, a hydrogeological soil survey may also be required. Particularly in the case of a problematic substrate, such as a foundation on loamy soil, planning reliability results with regard to a sufficient founding of the foundation.
