With a coffee machine it can come with insufficient cleaning fast to mold and bacteria education. This is not only unhygienic, but is also reflected in the taste of the coffee. Read below how to clean your coffee machine so that dirt and mold will not stand a chance.

Rinse daily

All coffee machines today have an automatic cleaning system, which rinses the lines and the brewing group after use. Therefore, you should remember to turn off a cup or a container under the coffee spout when switching off - and in some devices even when switching on - to catch the rinse water.

Clean manually every day

Unfortunately, not everything works automatically, you also have to clean a few things manually. Most susceptible to mold is the pomace container, so the drip tray for the coffee remains. It is therefore advisable to empty it daily and rinse it briefly under warm water.
Fill the water tank daily with fresh water and empty the water remaining in the water tank after brewing.
Rinse the drip tray after each use. Again, it comes quickly to mold.
Many coffee users also like to rinse the brewing group if it is removable. But you do not have to do this every day, enough once or twice a week.

Instructions for weekly cleaning

Once a week you should subject your coffee machine to a more thorough cleaning.

1. Rinse removable items

If items such as the water tank, drip tray, and coffee grounds container are dishwasher safe, put them in the dishwasher for cleaning. If not, rinse thoroughly with warm water and detergent.

2. Clean the brew group

Now the brewing group comes in: Take them out - if possible - and rinse them under running warm water. Do not use a dishwashing liquid in order not to affect the taste.

3. The inner workings of the coffee machine

Even inside, coffee powder remains stuck. Therefore, wipe off any parts that you reach after removing the brew group with a brush. Alternatively, you can also use a vacuum cleaner at the lowest level. Pay particular attention to the area behind the brew group and to the sensors on the drip tray.
