Building garden fountains yourself - easier than expected
A garden fountain can be created from a kit as well as freshly designed by yourself. To build a truly individual personal well yourself, you can combine different methods. Here we show you a guide how you can wall a garden fountain with a great screen.
Example of a visual protection well
A kit is of course a safer thing if a fountain is to be built in the garden. But creating an individual model is not difficult and usually much cheaper. Here we want to build a wall of natural stone, from which a wide stream of water falls into a natural stone-covered pool below.
The advantage is the added benefit of privacy. So not only an ugly corner in the garden can be visually upgraded, but also bald spots, where the neighbors constantly get insight, are so closed.

1. Create a foundation
Under each wall, a foundation must be created. The higher your natural stone wall should be, the deeper the foundation must be. Roughly speaking, a wall 1.80 meters high should have at least a foundation 60 centimeters deep.
If you like, you can use the foundation immediately as a support for the pelvis. Then the hole for the pool should be dug right away. To pour the foundation, but then a formwork panel is needed, which prevents the cement mixture runs.
If you plan a small shaft with appropriate openings at the back of the foundation, the pump can find its place here. This makes it easier to remove even in winter.
2. Insert basin
Under the pool, a well-mashed layer of gravel and sand should provide stability. When the foundation has dried, the basin is set flush. Be sure to check the tank very accurately with the spirit level.
Wall 3. Wall
Easier is it with rectangular natural stones for the garden. But also unevenly shaped natural stones can be formed into a great wall. However, you then often have to sort your pile of stones and turn the individual stones over and over again until everything fits.
The higher the natural stone wall should be, the more often you have to take a break in between. You should let the wall dry after two or three coats. Due to the high weight otherwise too much pressure is exerted on the wet mortar and this presses out.
4. Work in the wall outlet
Where the wall outlet is to be installed, of course, you must try to sort the stones so that a flat surface is created here. The wall outlet must be walled in very precisely with the spirit level.
The outlet should protrude at least ten centimeters out of the wall. But he can also project further and be embedded somewhat obliquely forward like a slide. Make sure that all ports are accessible at the back of the wall. This will make cleaning easier for you later and will help you to get to all parts in case of problems.
5. Install the pump
If the pump is to stand in the pool itself, you can cover it up with a stone mat after installation. In this example, however, the pump should conveniently be installed behind the wall in a small shaft. The beautiful clear line of the rectangular basin would be ruined by the pump.
Tips & Tricks
The pool edge can later be easily clad with the same natural stones. If necessary, adjust the depth of the pool to the height of the stones so that they fit well over the edge of the pool. If you like, you can also hide the edge with a stone mat.
