Transport gas bottles lying or standing

All gas cylinders may be transported lying or standing. Especially for bottles with a length of more than one meter, transporting can be decisively simplified, especially in private vehicles. While standing gas cylinders have to be protected against falling over, lying transports require roll-over safety.

What to pay attention to when transporting single bottles

In principle, all gas cylinders may be transported lying or standing in smaller numbers. Changed regulations such as the Dangerous Goods Ordinance are in most cases applicable to three simultaneously transported gas cylinders. Replacing a gas cylinder at the gas station or returning it to a hardware store requires a few self-explanatory procedures:

  • Lying bottles must be secured against rolling movements
  • Gas cylinders must not be able to react with the appropriate force such as heavy braking or external impact such as "projectiles"
  • Sufficient ventilation must be ensured in all transport positions
  • The transport must be carried out quickly after loading and terminated at the destination immediately by unloading
  • Excessive heat from extreme solar radiation on the transport space should be avoided
  • If possible, gas bottles should be transported separately from the passenger compartment of the vehicle, ideally in the boot

Fixation and valve protection

The bottle head with the valve and the valve is the biggest technical risk factor for the gas bottle. It must be secured by a sturdy lid or a sturdy cap. For horizontal loading, the top of the bottle must not point in the direction of travel. Safe and given in luggage compartments for reasons of space anyway, a transversely mounted to the direction of transport is ideal.

To attach a combination of rollicherem underground, for example, by a Kuhle and a festgurten make. It is also possible a "pinching" by soft, but unyielding materials such as cloth or foam. Popular tool is an "inverted" wooden pallet. In one of the board joints, the gas cylinder can be inserted and fixed by straps.

For horizontal transport, attention must also be paid to the attachment in the longitudinal axis. If a large force is applied to the vehicle, a steel bottle in the worst case can easily penetrate the body panel of a conventional car.

Tips & Tricks

In order to eliminate any risk of gas leakage, you should always ensure good ventilation of the transport location. To ventilate a trunk better, the folding of a rear seat back part can help.
