With the summer comes the time of grilling. Even on warm spring days, the barbecue season opens and the scent of meat and charcoal is in the air. The barbecue is just the summer. We Germans love meat and very well done. But we also know that the dark meat, which still gets a special aroma from the smoke of the charcoal, is anything but healthy. The black sausages, neck steaks or chops contain carcinogenic substances such as heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAA), acrylamide and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Likewise, you should never let the grill too much, which is often impossible to prevent by the dripping fat of the marinade. Because that too is carcinogenic and extremely unhealthy. So the more smoke, the unhealthier the barbecue enjoyment, because the pollutants with the smoke on Grillgut.Eine healthy and comfortable alternative therefore offers a gas grill. But many people are afraid of the dangers of gas. These are unfounded. When used properly, storage of gas bottles in the house is no problem. Especially since it is always forgotten that flying around, glowing charcoal pieces are much more dangerous than the use of a gas grill.

The burners in the grass grills are powered by propane or butane. These liquefied gases only become gaseous when they leave the bottles. If everything is working properly, it takes about 15 minutes after the grill is lit and the meat can be put on the grill. Thus, the annoying wait until the coal is finished, lapses. Then follow the manufacturer's instructions, which may vary depending on the model. However, always check if there is enough gas in the bottle. There is the possibility to have a grill with one or more burners. However, if you have only one burner, indirect barbecuing is very difficult. With more than just a burner, you can set the temperature zones safely and thus regulate the heat well. If the grill also has a lid, even the smoking is possible when using smoked wood.

These are also not environmentally friendly and often destroy the surface of the devices. Many gas grills therefore have a pyrolytic self-cleaning. The device is heated to about 500 degrees, so that any dirt disintegrates in ash. This program can take depending on the setting and pollution already one to two hours plus cooling time. The use of this self-cleaning is recommended only when needed and should under no circumstances be used after each use.

Choosing the Right BarbecueFirst of all, you should think carefully about who, how many, how many times you would like to grill, and above all, where?

  • If you would like to throw some sausages on the grill quickly, you should therefore resort to an electric grill or gas grill.
  • You can also use these on the balcony. No one annoys neighbors with this odor-neutral alternative and nobody can feel bothered. But not in every residential area gas grills are allowed on the balcony. Therefore, one should as a precaution to inform before buying from the municipality or city administration.
  • Pay attention to a security tested by the TÜV. In the case of a gas grill, the CE marking with a four-digit inspection number is important. If TÜV SÜD has tested this code, this 0123 can be sure that experts have tested the devices under the strictest of conditions. These grills are tested for safety and must comply with the requirements of the Food and Feed Code (LfbG) and the test standard.

The right application

  • If you want to take care of your health, you should resort to a gas grill, they do not smoke and so did not release any carcinogenic substances.
  • If you hold your hand at the level of the food and it lasts for about three seconds, the optimum temperature is reached.
  • Barbecue tongs are a wise investment. You do not sting, as with a fork, in the flesh. So no fat can drip out and the meat stays juicy

The TÜV checks

The TÜV first checks whether the instructions correspond to the installation and how exactly the operating instructions are. Then the device itself will be examined. Particular attention is paid to the load on the fire bowl and the grates. In addition to the stability of the grill and possibly sharp or even dangerous edges. For gas grills, the Gas Appliances Directive 90/396 / EEC, taking into account the amending Directive 93/68 / EEC. LPG units equipped with hose and pressure regulators are assessed in accordance with harmonized standards EN 498 and EN 484. Gas grills are subject to inspection by an approved body. This must carry out a type examination and create a corresponding test certificate. The manufacturer may choose the type of monitoring by an approved body. At the gas grill, the CE mark will be affixed only after successful testing and monitoring.
