Plaster gypsum fiber boards properly after priming

Gypsum fiber boards are very popular in interior design. They can also be plastered as an alternative to painting or wallpapering and then no longer be identifiable as panel walls. Read more about this topic here.

Prepare the gypsum fiber boards for plastering

In contrast to conventional plasterboard gypsum fiber boards do not consist of a gypsum board sandwiched between two cardboard layers. They consist of the same material throughout. This is a tightly compressed mixture of paper fibers, gypsum fibers and water. The gypsum fiber boards are inherently stable and are not held together by the cardboard layers such as gypsum board. Nevertheless, they must be prepared for plastering after installation. This can be done for example in the form of a suitable primer. In addition, in damp rooms impregnated variants of the wall panels should be used. Priming takes place to reduce the absorption of the materials.

The plastering of gypsum fibreboard walls in several steps

Plastering is usually done in several steps to get the best results:

  • First, a primer of the plates with a suitable adhesive barrier ground.
  • Afterwards you can apply a suitable lime structural putty with a thickness of about three millimeters.
  • Now follows a tissue embedding. You embed a reinforcing fabric in a new layer of structural spatula. This gives the plaster a sufficient stability. In addition, cracking is avoided.
  • Once this layer has dried out, you can finally apply and structure another layer of structural spatula.

Advantages of plastering walls made of gypsum fiber boards

Plastered walls are not in vain considered durable and easy in permanent care. They do not have to be wallpapered inconveniently, whereby the wallpaper may need to be renewed occasionally, for example in case of damage. The walls can simply be painted individually after plastering. You get a stable wall that has a flat surface and is free of edges from wallpaper. In addition, you can create interesting patterns on the wall by the structuring and thus provide a great room optics. Together with a matching ceiling cladding you get a uniform surface throughout the room, which is very easy to care for, durable and sturdy. You can use standard emulsion paints for painting.
