Heat pumps: geothermal heat pump, air heat pump, water heat pump

To heat the cold air to the required temperature, the heat pump requires more electricity. Unlike the other heat pumps, this variant has higher operating costs, which, however, offset each other by the low purchase price.

Heat pump: heating with earth, air and water

A heat pump is able to use the environmental heat so that it can heat the whole house. So there are three different variants to use either from the ground, the air or the groundwater, the required heat:

The three forms of heat pumps

The geothermal heat pump, also called brine-water heat pump, is the most widely used heat pump in 2008. With year-round ground temperature, these heat pumps are particularly efficient, environmentally friendly and powerful. Geothermal probes are connected deep in the ground and pass the heat via the heat pump to the heating system. This saves you up to 50% of the heating energy.

A water-water heat pump draws the heat from the groundwater. You need two wells for this. In one well, the groundwater is used for heat dissipation and in the other well, the cold water flows back. On the one hand, the heat pump extracts the heat from the groundwater and returns the cold and clean water back to the ground. Through a limited temperature difference, from about 6 -13 degrees, this water pump is not flexible.

Cost of a heat pump

Over the past few years, more and more homeowners are turning to a heat pump as the type of heating. Because modern heat pumps cost no more than a conventional heating system or a high quality gas central heating. You only have one advantage: you save considerable electricity costs. The exact purchase costs depend on the respective heat output and the actual consumption. However, the following average values ​​result for the different heat pumps:

  1. Geothermal heat pump: including drilling, geothermal probes ect. 16000-18000€
  2. Air to water heat pump: including connections 11000-13000€
  3. Water-water heat pump: including bores 10000-12000

Probes or geothermal collectors?

The heat reserves of the soil can be taped either by a probe or by geothermal collectors. The probe is installed vertically by drilling a hole about 100 meters deep. The cost of drilling is around 130 euros per meter. Geothermal collectors, however, are laid horizontally. The entire collector network covers an area of ​​about 150 square meters and is therefore suitable only for large plots of land, because there can not be built.
