The typical spatula tasks on an interior wall

Even with the requirements, there are enormous differences. The most diverse damage must be filled on a wall:

  • Drilling and dowel holes
  • slots
  • Cracks like stress cracks
  • Unevenness and chipped plaster layers
  • in drywall, the pile of drywall panels

The different fillers

Basically, two different fillers are differentiated according to the particular binder: cement and gypsum-containing fillers. In addition there are modern synthetic resin putties. Cement and plaster spatula either stir yourself or purchase it as a finished powder mixture. Finished putties are synthetic resin putties.

Cementitious putties are mainly used outdoors because they are also waterproof. Gypsum filler is used in. Gypsum offers several advantages. Gypsum filler can be smoothed very smoothly, it is pH-neutral and does not discolour. However, he is not resistant to water. Hence the use inside.

Finished putty should be used on the inner wall only for minor repairs and small repairs. He background is that these fillers evaporate the water contained and thus cure only slowly. In particular, applied in a single operation thick filler dries extremely bad. For larger work, powder is recommended, which you only need to mix with water.

Fill drywall inner wall

A drywall is today filled with different fillers. First, a slightly coarse-grained spatula is applied. This is followed by a fine spatula. It is also much easier to sand. The instructions for use tell you which sanding quality the various putties are suitable for.

Just fill wells or deep holes

One or the other handyman has certainly experienced it. In particular, when the filler has to be applied to grooves or holes in clear strength, the not yet dried putty quickly bulges outward. Anyone who has had to grind extensive putty work before often tries to prevent this.

You can do this by filling in several layers. Apply the first layer in such a way that it is quite clear that it is a depression. Then let the putty dry. Then you can fill the layer, which is only a few millimeters thick, completely flat in a subsequent putty. This saves a lot of working time during grinding later.
