Insulation underfloor heating

After the floor has been leveled and provided with the first layer of the structure, the well-considered and comprehensive thermal insulation takes place. There are different possibilities for this. The insulation in the old building or new building, can be done with insulation boards or screed. Both options insulate equally well, but insulation boards do more work when laying, since in these the recesses for the heating element must be cut out. It is easier to process flowing screed, which is simply poured over the installed underfloor heating, thus preventing the formation of air bubbles.

The right insulation prevents heat loss

So that the heat of the underfloor heating is not released into the cellar or into the earth, but over the visible floor covering in the room, the insulation must be optimally and the requirements of a floor heating fair, laid or poured. Bad insulation not only increases the cost of energy but also damages the environment and is therefore negative in two aspects. Especially in rented apartments or in soundproof new construction, it is appropriate to lay above the actual thermal insulation, a footfall sound insulation. Numerous manufacturers offer very good options that can be used in combination and purchased at reasonable prices. A good thermal insulation does not have to be expensive, but in any case it has to be considered carefully. In the old building, but also in a carpet that is laid on a floor heating, can be dispensed with a separate impact sound insulation, as the carpet creeps noise and not as much heat through, as comparatively a parquet, laminate or stone floor. While thermal insulation is designed to be impervious to heat, the impact sound insulation must allow good heat transmission. A misplaced or selected insulation leads to the fact that one heats practically for outside, but the living space can not warm up in the desired temperature.

Important reasons of insulation

In the old building, the floor is made of wood. If a floor heating system is laid directly, or only over a thin leveling layer, a lot of heat will come down and be discharged unused. Not only the lack of heat in the living room, but also the high energy costs due to lack of efficiency are a reason why the insulation should not be saved. Even at a low price, there are adequate options that can be used to achieve high-quality and efficient thermal insulation in old or new buildings. Cement screed has proven to be best, as it is simply poured over the designed underfloor heating and encloses the heating conductors airtight. Air pockets in the insulation promote non-exhaustive heat dissipation, which leads to the loss of heating power and does not heat the room over the entire floor as planned.

Achieve a high impact with little effort

Applying the insulating layer and optimally enclosing the underfloor heating is possible without great expenditure of time. For insulation boards, laying takes longer due to the necessary cut-outs for the heating cables, while a quick and even leveling application convinces with liquid screed. However, in the decision for cement screed, the waiting time must be included before the visible flooring can be applied and the floor can be completed. From the time required, the cement screed is thus higher, but he brings due to the quick and easy processing savings in labor and proves to be cost-effective.
