Jellyfish in the aquarium - highest difficulty class

Jellyfish are very elegant in the water, but a normal aquarium is not suitable for jellyfish, because the living conditions of the animals can not be met. For jellyfish, for example, the pelvis may have no corners and edges. What conditions have to be met in order to keep jellyfish, we show here in an overview.

Current in the basin

In an aquarium, which is to be filled with jellyfish, a steady flow must prevail everywhere. If there are any places in the basin where the current is rather weak or absent, the jellyfish can not escape there. Even she is unable to move out again.

However, the suction created by this flow pump must not be too strong, otherwise the jellyfish will be sucked in at the same time. Of course, such special pump systems, together with the round or cylindrical tank, cost considerably more than a normal aquarium.

Flexible temperatures

With regard to the water temperature, jellyfish are very flexible. They are all about 16 to 32 degrees all right, because they adapt to it. This is also important, as heating in the pool would also be an obstacle to the animals to which they could get stuck.

Also in the lighting, many types of jellyfish make high demands on their aquarist. You want to have certain light colors in the pool. Meanwhile, there are special lights with colored LEDs, which are tailored exactly for a jellyfish aquarium. Otherwise, these lamps can also be built by yourself.

However, some types of jellyfish can also handle normal, bright lighting for an aquarium. Here you have to see what your chosen jellyfish species prefers. Sun does not like jellyfish, so the pool must be protected from sunlight.

Important points in the management of jellyfish at a glance:

  • uniform flow over the whole basin
  • round basin without corners
  • no decorative objects
  • no heater
  • special lighting

Tips & Tricks

Jellyfish are very flexible in terms of temperature. However, temperature fluctuations cause stress for you. Therefore, the pool should never be placed near the heater.
