Paper the kitchen back wall

The classic tile mirror is indeed very practical, but is in the kitchen for a long time no longer in vogue. Instead, kitchen splashbacks are becoming increasingly important. Alternatively, some do-it-yourselfers also think about wallpapering the kitchen back wall. Below for wallpapering the kitchen back wall therefore advantages and disadvantages and similarly inexpensive alternatives.

Various materials for the kitchen back wall

For many decades, the tile mirror between wall cabinets and kitchen countertops was the solution in the first place. This is considered old-fashioned and fallen out of time. Instead, homogeneous kitchen backs are used. These form a completely smooth, possibly embossed surface with almost every imaginable motif. The question then quickly arises as to which material should be used for the kitchen back wall:

  • acrylic
  • Safety glass (ESG)
  • High pressure laminate (HDL)
  • different composites
  • different plastics
  • films
  • or just a wallpaper

The significant disadvantages of a wallpaper kitchen back wall

In the wallpaper, however, there are some hooks. In front of the kitchen back wall is usually also the hob; and it is cooking here. That is, hot steam, fat splashes and other liquids quickly reach the kitchen back wall. Ordinary paper wallpapers like the woodchipers are eliminated.

Wallpapers will not be up to the high standards

Although you can seal such a wallpaper with a corresponding clear coat. This must be washable in any case and also insensitive to water vapor and fat splash. Nevertheless, even a coated wallpaper will not be very attractive in a very short time. Especially in the area around the hotplate, as the wall has to be cleaned relatively frequently.

Kitchen back wall only recommend as a temporary solution

For this reason, we recommend the wallpapering of the kitchen back wall only partially as a temporary solution. Please also bear in mind that in a kitchen that is already equipped with a kitchen mirror, this kitchen mirror must either be knocked off or a plate must first be mounted as a substrate for wallpapering. Then you can also buy a ready kitchen back wall and attach, except that this then consists of a heat and steam resistant material.

Almost like wallpapering: foil as kitchen back wall

As an alternative to wallpaper as a kitchen back wall, we therefore recommend a special film that can be used as a kitchen back wall. Similar to a wallpaper, the film is also glued to the kitchen wall.
