Install a kitchen worktop

A new kitchen worktop can be installed by a skilled handyman himself. What special features there are to consider, we describe below next to instructions for installing a kitchen plate.

Preparatory work before the removal of the old plate

If you want to replace the worktop in an existing kitchen, of course, first the old kitchen worktop must be dismantled. Follow the link and get detailed instructions. As long as the old plate is installed, you should take the measurements.

Preparing the new kitchen counter

The new plate can be cut to the dealer. If you want to cut the kitchen worktop yourself, you get more information here. In addition, the following openings must be cut in the plate:

  • for the hob
  • for the sink

Blanks on the worktop

If these parts are also replaced, the dealer can also take over this cutting if you send him the installation position using the old plate. If you want to do this yourself, you will receive a template with the new components.

For old components without a template, reverse them and plot the outline on the plate. Then measure how many inches to the inside of this outer edge to cut and record the cutting line exactly.

Gradual installation of a kitchen worktop

  • edgings
  • new kitchen plate
  • connecting brackets
  • Connection fittings (with two-part plates)
  • Mounting clamps for sink and hob
  • possibly silicone
  • Screws or tape / glue for terminal block
  • Cordless Screwdriver
  • hammer
  • screwdriver
  • spirit level
  • silicone syringe
  • possibly saws for cutting

1. Connect both plates together

If the cut-outs for sink and hob are already cut, the two plate parts are placed on the base cabinets. Now connect the two halves with the connection fittings and align the plate.

Check that the plate rests in the water and adjust the base units accordingly (on the rotatable feet).

2. Fasten kitchen panel to base cabinets

Now the mounting brackets are bolted to base cabinets and worktop. From the center of the kitchen panel, move outwards, alternately to the right and to the left. So the kitchen worktop is perfect for later.

3. Mount the hob and sink

Now the sink and the hob are used. For the hob, first make the connection to the oven. Make sure that the power is turned off. The components are fastened with the clamps. You may also need to install silicone or an enclosed sealing tape (for new parts) between the plate and components.

4. Install the mixer tap and drain

Thereafter, the mixer tap is inserted into the designated hole and tightened from below. Then you can install the siphon and the water connection. Keep in mind that you may need different fittings for a dishwasher.

5. Fasten terminal strips

The terminal block can also be attached. Either this is screwed or glued. When screwed strips make sure that they fit exactly in height. It may also be necessary to apply a seal or apply silicon between the end strip and the kitchen top.
