Select and process leveling compound for tiles correctly

Tiles are often laid wherever it is important to maintain the floors or wall coverings as lightly and easily as possible. When applying new floor coverings, it is necessary to use a suitable leveling compound, so that the result is good.

What balancing mass is used on the tiles

There are many types of subsoil on which tiles have sometimes been laid. It is a fairly durable floor covering, but nevertheless should not always remain permanently. If a new floor covering is to be laid on the tiles and it is only a rather thin material, the pattern of the tiles can be characterized. One solution is to attach or apply a thicker material to the tiles. The other possibility is to use a suitable leveling compound or leveling compound to straighten the bumps through the tiles and the joints therebetween, so that a new floor covering can be laid thereon.

Level floor areas are usually necessary

A straightened floor area is usually necessary to get a good result and not to damage the new floor covering. There are different types of leveling compounds that can be suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Before you go to work and decide on a variety, you should pay attention to the instructions on the packaging and especially the respective areas of application. Usually these are listed so that you can choose the optimal means for exactly your purpose.

The strength of the balancing mass is equally important

When buying, be sure to pay attention to the height of the leveling compound. Different varieties are only a few millimeters thick. Other varieties reach thicknesses of up to 20 millimeters and sometimes even more. In interior design, such heights can very quickly lead to new problems, for example, when after the laying of the leveling compound and the new flooring, the doors can not be opened and closed.

What you need when laying

The list of materials is not particularly long when it comes to laying the appropriate leveling compound or leveling compound. You need the following things:

  • an alkaline cleaner
  • a primer, such as epoxy resin
  • the balancing mass itself
  • Insulating strips for the edge of the floor

The following accessories can also be helpful in processing the mass:

  • A diamond grinder
  • a drill with helical stirrer or whisk
  • a spatula
  • Roll and tassel
  • a bucket

What else should you pay attention to

The insulating strips help prevent cracks in the leveling compound later. They are used for laying along the wall, so that the floor later has no direct connection to the wall. As a result, any tensions of the mass are not transferred to the wall, so the floor can work. What you absolutely need when processing is appropriate safety clothing in the form of work gloves and work shoes. You should also buy protective goggles or a respirator.
