However, there are also restrictions. So there are plastic-coated non-woven wallpapers on which no color holds. In addition, the color on dark non-woven wallpaper sometimes very difficult to cover. This can be a problem especially with patterned wallpaper.

Restrictions through the wallpaper structure

In addition, non-woven wallpapers can be equipped with a raised structure. If, for example, a plastering technique is imitated, brushing is usually not a problem, because these non-woven wallpapers are quite specifically intended for painting. However, there are also some sublime designs that would make a painting look weird.

Should the non-woven wallpaper actually be painted?

Since non-woven wallpapers are relatively easy to remove, you should consider removing the non-woven wallpaper in such a case.

Step by step guide to painting a non-woven wallpaper

1. Preparatory work

First, you should clean the non-woven wallpaper. This is especially true when the wallpaper has a raised surface texture. Now wait until the wallpaper is completely dry.

In the meantime, you can remove baseboards, sockets and light switches, also mask off everything with tape and lay out the painter's foil.

2. Priming the non-woven wallpaper

If necessary, prime your non-woven wallpaper now. Follow the instructions of the manufacturer of the respective primer. After painting let the primer dry.

3. Painting the non-woven wallpaper

Now you can start painting the non-woven wallpaper. Paint the non-woven wallpaper as well as any other surface. This means primarily to paint the non-woven wallpaper in the cloister.

Tips & Tricks

Knowing in advance that conventional wall paint will not cover your non-woven wallpaper, latex paint may be the right choice. Although this color is much more expensive, but it may be possible to achieve an absolute cover.
