Tongue and groove on almost all parquet patterns

The milled groove, in which a spring is inserted, is the most common way of fixing single parquet elements together. There are ship's bottom, herringbone and lamparquet with these Verschränkungsnuten.

Smaller parquet patterns such as chunky parquet in mosaic or cube shape are often just like the upright lamellar parquet already mounted on a grid, mesh or paper. Here, the individual panels are laid side by side and glued.

Step by step to the parquet floor

  • primer
  • Plastic film made of polyethylene
  • Eventually parquet glue
  • Maybe solvent
  • Possibly sound insulation
  • notched trowel
  • trowel
  • cleaning cloths
  • hammer
  • bat
  • crowbar
  • jigsaw
  • spacer
  • spirit level
  • Folding rule or tape measure

1. Prepare underground

The substrate must be level, dry and clean. If the surface has too much absorbency, a primer must be painted before applying glue to allow adhesion of the adhesive.

For the floating installation, a plastic film made of polyethylene must be spread on the surface as a vapor barrier. On this a possible footfall sound insulation made of cork, felt or other insulation material is introduced.

2. Lay the first row or batch

When gluing parquet, the first row must be placed at a distance from the width of a row of sheets in front of the front wall, where the beginning of the laying is oriented. This approach is the starting point for each additional series.

Floating parquet to be laid, the first row will be laid on the front wall. The front wall should have as possible no door or passage.

3. Pad and adjust row by row

When gluing always enough adhesive must be distributed so that the laying time does not exceed the bonding time of the adhesive. The adhesive surface must be grooved with a toothed spatula to facilitate even distribution when pressing the parquet elements.

After each laid parquet element, the joint-free placement should be fixed with a hammer and a hammer. The length adjustment of each end element of each row must be individually measured and sawn, as masonry rarely runs straight.

4. Balance unevenness

Check the horizontal position of the parquet elements with the spirit level after every third finished row at the latest. If necessary, unevenness in glued parquet can be compensated with the suspension of additional adhesive.

After completion, floating parquet can be entered immediately, with glued parquet, the drying time specified by the adhesive manufacturer must be maintained with good ventilation and a stable temperature.

Tips & Tricks

Complain the freshly laid parquet elements with stones or other heavy objects, after which they have checked the final jointless position and the horizontal surface. This prevents any subsequent misalignment by fitting in further elements.
