Partition: Building drywall wall

Especially for partitions and partitions, the drywall method has proven itself. It is quick and easy, is inexpensive and ideal for the subsequent installation of partitions. How exactly this works and what to look for, read here.

Building drywall

The construction of a drywall is very simple: GK boards (plasterboard, also called after the trade name "Rigips") are simply screwed together on a framework of metal profiles. Between the plates comes an insulation, needed cables are simply laid between the plates.

Cost of a drywall

materialPrice approx
GK panels, per m²approx. 1.80 - 3 EUR depending on strength and design (usual prices)
CW profile, running meterabout 3 - 4 EUR
UW profile, running meterabout 2 - 3 EUR
Mineral wool for insulating layer4 - 8 EUR per m²
PE filmabout 0,50 EUR per m²
Screws for fixing the GK platesabout 5 EUR per 1.000 pcs.
joint fillerabout 7 EUR per 5 kg, smaller quantities are more expensive

As a rule, you should consider about 10 - 15% waste as a handyman. After that, of course you have to expect everything else you need:

  • Plaster (flush and surface plaster)
  • cables
  • counter
  • cans
  • Wall paint

Proper execution

Instructions for building a drywall can be found in this article. It also explains how to calculate your material requirements and how to proceed step by step.

When measuring, it is important to always make sure that everything is straight. If necessary, use the spirit level to measure whether all connecting walls are actually exactly straight. Otherwise, you may experience material usage issues later - you will need more material than you planned, and may need to stop work and buy more.

All required materials are easily available in hardware stores. However, let us advise you on the thickness of the GK boards and the design of the board, as well as on the selection of the insulating material.

Tips & Tricks

Of course, lightweight materials such as aerated concrete blocks or aerated concrete bricks ("ytong") can also be used indoors. The advantage lies in the dry construction method in a much higher thermal insulation (in partitions, however, rarely necessary) and the very efficient operation. But you should be able to master the basic construction of walls to some extent.
