Plasterboard in different types and sizes for interior design

Gypsum plasterboards are very universally applicable building materials and are often used for interior and drywall construction. You can disguise old masonry or walls and build non-load-bearing interior walls.

Plasterboard of various types for construction and renovation work

Plasterboard panels are very well suited for the production of non-load-bearing interior walls. They are very easy to change or to rebuild if necessary. In addition, walls, roof pitches and roof surfaces can also be clad with the panels. Often they are referred to as plasterboard. The plates consist of a gypsum core and a cardboard sheath. The cardboard layers are what ensure high stability. Of course, there are the plates in many different sizes, which you can select depending on the particular application.

The different types and sizes and their applications

The plasterboard can be divided according to the type of execution. For example, there are standard plates, impregnated plates with increased resistance to moisture or even fire-resistant plates. There are also plasterboard for special applications. Here mainly the different sizes of the plates and their fields of application are discussed, therefore here are some common sizes and their areas of application:

  • There are so-called renovation boards with a thickness of about 6.5 millimeters. With a width between 900 and 1200 millimeters and a length between 1250 and 3000, they are well suited for cladding walls, but not for the production of partitions.
  • The same applies to the plates with approximately the same area, but a thickness of 9.5 millimeters, which are referred to as dry plasterboard.
  • Expansion boards are available in many different sizes such as 600, 900 and 1250 x 2000 to 3000 millimeters and thicknesses of 12.5, 15 and 18 millimeters. These panels can also be used for partitions or partition walls.
  • Solid building boards are considered particularly robust. They are available with a thickness of 20 or 25 millimeters. The surface dimensions are 625 millimeters wide and between 2000 and 2600 millimeters long.
  • You will also get special plates for protection against fire, rays or sound. Furthermore, composite panels are available for optimum insulation.

The thickness of the plates and their dependent applications

The scope of plasterboard depends mainly on their strength. The load capacity naturally increases with the strength. For heavy-duty walls, it is therefore necessary to use panels with a thickness of 12.5 or more millimeters. Keep in mind, however, that the weight of the plate will increase significantly.

Select larger or smaller plasterboard

There are many different sizes of plasterboard. The standard format is 1250 millimeters wide and about 2600 millimeters long. Also common are the so-called one-man plates with dimensions of 625 x 2600 millimeters, which are easier to handle. A tip: Larger plates are not only cheaper, but can also be processed much faster.
