Plastering - the tools

Machine plaster is just one possible technique. For plastering by hand, many different tools are needed, each with their own fields of application and areas of application. Which tools you use when plastering where, therefore reveals this contribution.

Tools for mixing plaster

Plaster must be touched smoothly. This is only possible with very small quantities by hand. For larger amounts, it is no longer possible to achieve uniform consistency without lumps.

mortar bucket

For the mixing of finished plaster, you first need a mortar bucket or a mortar trough. Both are available in different sizes. Basically, the bigger, the easier the uniform mixing.

Agitators

For smaller quantities, there are stirring rods and quirks, which can be put into the drill. They are simply mounted in the chuck, with the drill then the mixture can be stirred evenly.

For very large quantities or for plasters with a tougher consistency, these quirks are no longer sufficient because of the low power of the drill. Here then a hand mixer should be used, for which there are different Quirle.

Hand mixers cost - depending on performance - from about 60 EUR upwards. In some cases you can borrow these devices as well.

mixers

For the production of very large, quickly required amounts of plaster and mixing stirrers can then be used. For use with plastering machines, however, mostly continuous mixers are used, which can either work with bagged goods or with silo goods.

For home use, however, such devices are usually superfluous, stirrers are sufficient in most cases. You can make the amount of plaster that can actually be processed by non-professionals within the processing time.

Equipment for plastering by hand

For plastering a variety of devices is used. The most important can be found here.

The grape box

Also called peel board. It is used for smooth removal of plaster. Alternatively, a peel strip can also be used.

triangular trowel

It is used for mixing and applying the plaster. The slimmer shape of this tool, which is used for hard-to-reach places, is called cat's tongue.

Various trowels

They are used for different purposes depending on their shape. Coarse trowels for coarse application of plaster, smooth trowels for smoothing.

fill

Fillers are available in many different shapes and sizes. They serve for minor work on the plaster, but can also be used for application in difficult places. Special forms are for example Japan spatula.

Floats

Fretting boards are used for rubbing brushes. They usually have pads made of plastic, sponges, felt or sponge rubber. The finer structures are used to smooth the plaster. You should always have scrapers at hand, even in smaller sizes, in order to be able to work cleanly even in corners and edges.

Various tools

These include, for example, rollers for applying primers, a shovel for the introduction of dry mortar in the mortar trough, a water bucket or a coarse street brush. Gloves should also not be missing as cement on the skin can cause irritation.
