Make your own plate with porcelain color

You can even design custom plates or cups yourself with porcelain paint. Not much tools are needed and after a short heat in the oven, you can use these plates for your food. In the manual, we will show you step by step how to paint the plates yourself.

Create your own plate step by step

  • Porcelain Paint
  • Plate (heat resistant)
  • kitchen towels
  • cotton swab
  • carbon paper
  • duct tape
  • pencil
  • oven

1. Transfer motif

Attach carbon paper to the plate. So that it does not slip, you should fix it from below with tape. Then place the selected motif over it and fasten it as well. Then you pause the motive with the pencil on the plate.

Even a freehand drawn motive should indicate with a pencil on the plate, at least in the outlines. So you can see the proportions better and can still make corrections.

2. Paint the plate

Do you want to make the plates together with children, rather pencils are suitable with porcelain color. Later, however, the more noble appear motifs that you have applied with a brush. Always have cotton swabs, paper towels, and a potty of rinse water ready. So you can quickly correct something as long as the color is not dried yet.

3. Bake plate

Check the manufacturer's instructions for how long and at what temperature the particular color needs to be baked into the plate. To prevent the plate from jumping in the event of a sudden temperature shock, do not preheat the oven. Mostly a temperature between 160 and 180 degrees will be necessary, so that the color later withstands washing. Depending on the manufacturer, the plates have to be "baked" for between 30 and 90 minutes.

Tips & Tricks

With special transfer foils you can even print your plates with the photos of your loved ones. The slides are printed in their own printer with the photo and then stuck on the plate like a decal. However, the plates are then no longer suitable for food. But as a decoration you get a very individual plate.
