Stick Poroton - is that possible?

Porotonous tiles can also be glued in some cases, instead of walling in a conventional way. In which stones is possible, what advantages that brings and what you have to pay attention when gluing Porotonziegeln is explained in this article.

Suitable stones

Not all Porotonziegel can be glued. The prerequisite is that the stones are very precisely made to measure and completely flat. Such Porotonziegel therefore called also Porotonplansteine.

Many planers have on the head side a toothing, which is reminiscent of a tongue and groove system. As a result, adjacent stones can be connected seamlessly, ie without a joint. This results in the masonry only longitudinal joints, but no transverse joints more.

The longitudinal joints can be made very thin due to the high accuracy of fit of the stones. Thin-bed mortar is used for this purpose.

The stones are therefore no longer walled, but interlocked and the individual rows of stones "glued" to each other.

Advantages of gluing

Joints are uninsulated areas of the masonry. Bonding produces not only fewer joints but also fewer joints than traditional masonry. Vertical joints are completely eliminated, the longitudinal joints are usually between 1 and 3 mm high with thin-bed mortar.

As a result, the insulation capacity of the wall is much higher, since there are hardly any uninsulated joints. The effects of this construction method are very clearly measurable on the basis of the U-values.

Possible disadvantages

Plane tiles, which in addition have to be sanded completely flat during production, are considerably more expensive than normal hollow block tiles made of poroton. When filled flat roofs, which have a very high thermal insulation, the price difference is even clearer.

However, the high processing speed of plan stones, which helps to save working time and thus in turn costs, has a compensatory effect. A comparison with other building materials in advance, but worth it.

Important when gluing

  • right tools for mortar application
  • especially fitting, professional cutting
  • Experience in installing Poroton floor tiles

For the required, completely uniform mortar application, a VD roller must be used. It must be tailored to the respective stone width.

The stones may only be cut with suitable cutting machines (wet or dry). Without experience and suitable tools you should not dare to stick to poroton walls.

Tips & Tricks

Also important is the correct consistency of the thin-bed mortar, and the correct, professional mixing of the adhesive mortar.
