Because for every home improvement but sometime always is the first time, we have subsequently provided a detailed guide to laying carpet for you.

So carpets are laid

Carpets significantly change the living atmosphere. Thanks to an enormous variety of colors and patterns, all individual wishes can be realized. When laying carpets, you can do different things when it comes to fixing the carpet.

  • up to 20 sqm loose
  • above with adhesive tape (double-sided)
  • about it with carpet glue

Carpet glue - yes or better not?

Whether you are using adhesive tape or carpet adhesive should depend on a variety of factors.

  • rented apartment
  • The carpet should be quick and easy to remove
  • very large carpet surfaces with a problematic material (which casts waves and bubbles)

Possibilities for carpet sticking

In principle, a double-sided adhesive tape should be sufficient for most carpets. However, if you want to use a carpet adhesive, you should take note that you have the choice between different products.

  • Carpet adhesive on a water-soluble basis
  • solvent-based carpet adhesive
  • Reactive resin Teppichkleber
  • Rubber-based carpet adhesive

Advantages and disadvantages

All adhesives have advantages and disadvantages. So there are water- and moisture-sensitive carpets, where you should not use water-soluble adhesives, as they could harm the carpet. For solvent-based carpet adhesives, the disadvantages of the solvent-containing evaporations are obvious. For this, these adhesives can be applied just like the water-soluble one and, above all, fix the carpet afterwards.

Fixable, natural or durable

Reaction resin carpet adhesive is, as long as it is still wet, sensitive to chemicals and water, but later resistant. As a natural product, rubber adhesive is certainly good for your health, but dries so quickly that you can no longer fix the carpet. When using carpet adhesives, keep in mind that after many years, they are often extremely difficult to remove.

1. Preparatory work

a) General preparation work
Of course you have to clear out the relevant room in an existing apartment first and if necessary tear out old carpets. Make sure that there are no residues left of the old carpet, carpet glue or adhesive tape. Then sweep and clean the floor.

b) Move the carpet forward
In the best case, unroll the carpet the day before installation and allow it to be adjusted and laid out. You can also roughly cut the rug so that it lasts generously a few inches on the walls. When laying several carpet sheets, do not cut the edges until the next day, when the sheets have already laid out.

2. Laying the carpet.

a) Laying a carpet surface (not several webs)
Carefully cut the corners at the corners. Perform the cut diagonally (if the carpet would be flat). But do not cut too far, but from one corner to the next always a bit further. Otherwise there is a high risk that you cut the carpet too far. Cut with the hook blade from the inside out.

b) Laying several carpet sheets
This is the same procedure, except that the edges are at least an inch thick. On this overlap you now put on your cutting aid and cut both webs at the same time. This ensures that the cut edges will perfectly match even the slightest deviations. Then cut the carpet corners as already mentioned.

3. Gluing the carpet

If you want to glue your carpet, stick the tape to the floor. But pull off the upper protective film only at the end. With a distance of two to three centimeters, you stick the adhesive tape along the walls, at the edges, it is best to place two sheets directly next to each other. Roll up the carpets, remove the tape step by step and roll out the carpet again. Press in with a fuser roller.

4. Fitting and cutting the carpet

Now you can also cut the carpet at the edges. Push it all the way into the corners and put on your cutting aid. With the trapezoid blade you cut now between wall and cutting aid.

5. Fit end strips

Finally, you can now attach your base or end strips.

Tips & Tricks

Finishing strips are available in a variety of designs made of wood, plastic, carpet and carpet with a chained edge. You can also remove old taped carpets with wallpaper remover. Let the wallpaper remover soak like wallpaper. However, you must not release the adhesive in anhydrite screed floors that are sensitive to moisture.
