Report from the Maker Faire Hannover 2014

On Saturday and Sunday it was time again. The Maker Faire Hannover opened its doors and invited to the big technology round. Already for the first German Maker Faire 2013 there was a large number of visitors and this time everything should be a little bigger and better. In numbers this means:

moving dresser

  • two of them were turned into an exhibition hall
  • from 1.085m² (plus park) were 2712m² (plus park)
  • One exhibition day turned into two exhibition days

And it was worth it. If the fair attracted 4300 visitors in 2013, there were already more than 9000 this year. A success that has a reason. Where do inventors, hobbyists and computer geeks find more suggestions and information than at a trade fair that was invented exactly for this? Freaks sit next to nerds, hobbyists next to tinkerers and playful next to idealists. A feeling that one must have experienced once. From every corner an "Ah...", "Oh..." or "How does that work?" There were many explanations and everyone talked shop in front of each booth.

What was striking was the trend of 3D printer, Nothing is impossible here. Whether large, small, made of wood or metal, they were represented in all variants. Meanwhile, they even print their own spare parts.

Steampunk on the Maker Faire

Steampunk computer

Of course, the Steampunkers were back in the scene - a scene that simply fascinates. Modern, futuristic elements combined with parts of the Victorian era make a more than interesting sight. Old typewriters, gearwheels and cameras are arranged into unique works of art and sometimes include the latest technology. Here is the love in detail and endless hours of work in each unique.

Steampunk without admiral Aaron Ravensdale, of course, does not work. In the luggage he had among others his Tesla speakers, which provided a musical duel. Electricity can be dangerous, but also fascinating if you control and control it. Admiral Aaron Ravensdale presents this in perfection.

Tetris in a new design

Door with Tetris game

Another interesting trend is the new implementation of old simple games like Tetris. Retro is just modern. Who comes up with the idea of building a huge Tetris game in a door? Such great implementations can only be seen on the Maker Faire and maybe soon on many domestic toilets.

There are no limits to the variety of ideas and so there are Tetris in small coffee tables, in LED columns or Jump 'N' Run on large LED fields. Even old game computers are revived with new technology and awaken old memories.
