Sand the sandstone with cement slurry

When plastering sandstone, it is particularly important to prepare the surface of the rock in such a way that the plaster remains stable. For this purpose, a breathable plaster must be applied, otherwise there is a risk that loose rock sites that crumble, for example, the plaster layer no longer hold.

Plaster types and designs

The plastering of sandstone is carried out both outside and inside. A mortar provided with a binder is applied in several layers. The plaster is in the interior especially for the creation of flat wall surfaces, for example, to be wallpapered or painted, responsible. Outside, the plaster acts as a protection against the weather for the facade of sandstone.

Through colored plaster application, the subsequent painting of the plastered surface can be saved. The plaster can act through its individual composition heat and noise insulating. The type of processing and application ensures different optics and structures, provided that no smooth flat surface represents the Zeil.

Typical design variants arise from the application of trowels, trimming the plaster and the scratching plaster, the top layer is sprayed on. All brushing in common is the breathable property.

Mortar types and order

Typical mortar for plastering sandstone are lime plaster, cement mortar and lime cement plaster. As the first layer, the so-called cement slurry forms a kind of primer and support base for the following plaster layers. Cement vial is a liquid "concrete" that is sprayed on. Its consistency ensures that any cracks and holes on the sandstone surface are closed. It consists of very fine quartz sand with grains of sand between zero and 0.4 millimeters and plasticizing polymers.

The proper processing sequence and type is particularly important when plastering. The individual plaster layers must be applied partly wet in wet and partly with intermediate drying. The basic rule is that the plaster must be softened from the inside out to guarantee its load-bearing capacity.

How to plaster sandstone

  • cement slurry
  • cement mortar
  • lime cement plaster
  • plaster
  • water
  • Possibly color pigments
  • wire brush
  • Hard root brush
  • metal spatula
  • Hand Brush
  • trowel
  • Large kitchen ladle

1. Prepare sandstone

Brush the sandstone surfaces to remove any debris and loose components. Depending on the condition, scratching or knocking off can also help. Sweep the resulting dust off completely.

2. Apply cement slurry

Wet the sandstone surface well and evenly. Start immediately by "spinning" the liquid cement slurry. For this you can use a cleaning trowel or with a very fluid consistency a large kitchen trowel. In their random distribution state, allow the vinasse to dry as it adheres, including bleak sandstone spots.

3. Straighten

Fill the uneven areas with cement mortar on the dry vat and smooth the surface with the cleaning trowel.

4. Apply plaster layers

Stir the lime cement plaster according to the manufacturer's instructions and "throw up" two layers. Avoid the "Aufzieheffekt" by stroking the plaster.

Tips & Tricks

The raising of the second and most recent plaster layer takes place only after the binding of the first layer. Apply the last layer of plaster according to your design wishes.
