Scratches in the bathtub made of acrylic, enamel and ceramic

A bathtub is made of either acrylic, enamel or ceramic. To remove scratches, different specific methods are required. Repair kits are available for all materials, allowing relatively easy removal. The offer ranges from special erasers to self-sealing filler.

Physical effect

Enamel and ceramics are mainly used because of their surface hardness as a material for bathtubs. If a scratch has formed, however, it is a superficial injury in the majority of cases. In enameled metal pan bodies, the metal can be exposed. A prompt seal of the scratch and / or bursting is important to prevent consequential damage.

Each hard surface material receives in the overall stability a sensitive damper, when it is no longer closed throughout. Physically, this can be compared in a broader sense with the surface tension of water. A hole "pricked" into a water surface destroys the total stress. In addition to their optical effect, scratches also result in a functional restriction. Unlike enamelled and ceramic bathtubs, scratches in acrylic tubs are a purely visual phenomenon.

Enamel usually consists of two layers or is applied to a metal body. The repair or sealing is possible in most cases with a special paint pencil. Important is the cleaning of the scratch, for example me acetone. Any rusty spots must be completely eliminated.

Remove scratches in ceramic

There are colored or colored ceramics. With colored ceramic scratches are only slightly visible. Colored ceramic can be sanded and resealed with special repair abrasives according to the manufacturer's instructions. Optical impairments are almost inevitable. It is usually advisable to do only waterproof repainting.

Remove scratches in acrylic

Smaller and less deep scratches can be "erased" with a special eraser. Deeper scratches can be sanded off and rebuilt with special paint. The repair prevents the tub use by a relatively long drying time up to several days. Before choosing the repair kit, the type of plastic should be determined without any doubt.
