Sink made of stainless steel or ceramic?

The common choice for a kitchen sink is still stainless steel. But optically, ceramics are usually much more appealing. However, many users fear that a ceramic sink is not only sensitive but could also damage the dishes. So we gathered all the facts about the two materials here.

Stainless steel sink advantages and disadvantages

Stainless steel is a timeless choice that never goes out of fashion. This is exactly what makes the sink made of stainless steel but also a bit boring. What few users know, though, is that stainless steel is actually a mix of nickel and chrome. So it is indeed possible for extreme allergy sufferers that a stainless steel sink triggers the nickel allergy. Especially if it is a particularly cheap version.

  • Shocks are well cushioned - dishes do not break easily
  • Stainless steel is easy to clean and hardly susceptible to rust
  • Stainless steel sink also withstands high heat
  • Color does not fade
  • Stainless steel easily gets scratches
  • Fingerprints always clearly visible

Ceramic sink - elegant solution

Even if we have noted the susceptibility to scratches in the stainless steel sink, the ceramic sink can be even more sensitive. Bright ceramic sinks discolour very easily. Coffee or tomato sauce can settle in the fine scratches and partly on the surface. As long as the sink is new or treated with great care, it looks very simple yet elegant. But if the ceramic sink gets the first spots, it looks shabby and old.

Incidentally, nobody has to be afraid of splintering ceramics because the modern basins are fired at such high temperatures that the smooth surface does not chip off. At the same time, however, this is a disadvantage, because the dishes do not come so completely out of a collision.

  • Cutlery can cause scratches
  • in dark ceramics, scratches are bright
  • bright ceramic discolored easily
  • large selection of different colors
  • Ceramic basin is very heavy

Tips & Tricks

If you choose a ceramic bowl, you should always use a plastic bowl for washing dishes. On the other hand, you should have the sink installed by a specialist. The heavy basins alone can be difficult for home improvement users to use. If the pool is also installed crooked, it can break. The problem would then have the expert.
