Slatted squeaks - What to do?

You can not sleep at night, because with every movement your slatted squeaks? In the following we show three possible reasons for the squeaking and how you can proceed against each one in order to be able to sleep peacefully again.

root cause analysis

First, you should try to find out where the squeaking sound is coming from so that you can precisely counter it. To do this, try lying on the mattress to provoke the squeaking noise and locate where it comes from. It's best to work in pairs, because four ears hear more than two.
Alternatively, you can also remove the mattress from the slatted base and lay directly on the slatted base to be closer to the noise source.
The squeaking can have the following causes:

  • Friction with the bedstead
  • Metal parts squeak
  • Slatted frame unstable
  • Bed frame creaks
  • Bars creak

1. slatted rubs on the bed frame

The slatted frame is usually placed directly on the bed frame. So is wood on wood. Small shifts can cause a slight squeaking noise.

What can you do about it?

There are two ways to eliminate the friction between bedstead and slatted frame:

  • At the hardware store you buy felt glides and matching adhesive. Then attach a bit of felt to the places where the slatted frame rests on the bed and prevent the noise from forming. Alternatively, you can also use foam for upholstery. It is important that you evenly cushion all resting places. If you forget a job, it will continue to squeak.
  • You can also simply screw the slatted frame onto the bed frame. However, this has the disadvantage that you can not simply just take off the rust, in order, for. to keep something under the bed.

2. Adjustable slatted base with metal parts

If you have a height-adjustable slatted base, it has several metal parts. These too can be the cause of a squeaking noise while sleeping.

What can you do about it?

Rub all metal parts with a little oil! Alternatively, you can also use silicone spray. This has the same effect but with the advantage that it does not stain. This makes the metal smoother.

3. Slatted not firmly screwed and unstable

If your slatted frame is screwed on, loose screws can cause the entire frame to move, producing unpleasant noises.

What can you do about it?

Remove the slatted frame from the bed and use an Allen key or a screwdriver to tighten all the screws on the side rails, as it were, on the slatted wooden frame. Also think about the cross connection in the middle!

4. The bed frame is to blame

If you are not sure whether the noise really comes from the slatted frame or rather from the bed frame during the audition, remove the slatted frame from the bed and try to move the bed frame. If there are noises now, your slatted frame is innocent.

What can you do about it?

Firmly tighten the screws around the bed frame and slightly oil them.
