Sliding doors in modern design

Meanwhile, these silent gliders are a contemporary design element that It is impossible to imagine a modern interior without it is. They are still a practical matter, but increasingly convince by multifunctionality and a very attractive appearance.

A good example is the sliding door "Evolution" by Herholz. It is the further development of the multi-award winning and with the "red dot" awarded sliding door "Rush". An extraordinary eye-catcher is the visible track also with "Evolution". That's how it is the impression that the door is floating in front of the running track, brushed in the aluminum finish enhances the trendy character of this extraordinary door element.

Construction principles of sliding doors

Sliding doors can be opened, just like folding doors, into conflicting principles.

1. Related: The running machine is located in a running rail, which carries the load. A guide rail on the ground is possible against heavy commuting, but not mandatory.

2. Hanging with door support profile: The door runs on top of a chain on top of a track and transfers the load to many rollers. The lower guide is made by guide pins.

3. Standing: The running machine moves on a guide rail on the ground. An upper guide of the door is possible as a tilt protection, but does not apply to a free-standing sliding door.

Advantages of sliding doors

Sliding doors have the advantage over conventional swing doors that the weight is not one-sided on a hinge hangs, but is taken above or below the door. This makes sliding doors particularly suitable for heavy and large door constructions.

A clear disadvantage of sliding doors, however, is theirs elaborate construction: The running apparatus, the upper and possibly the lower guide make exact work, partly extensive conversions of the existing conditions and a meticulous alignment required - after all, nothing should jam.

All 5 cm strips of construction must with a miter angle of 45° be provided, as well as on one side the two long, 1-cm strips and on both sides of the short 1-cm strips.

First, now the two short and two long 5-cm bars folded on the floor to a door frame and glued at the corners with construction adhesive. On these strips and the door frame is now plentifully applied wood construction adhesive, then the disc is inserted. Left, right, up and down, the disc is held by the glued 1 cm strips (see drawing).

Very important: 2 cm at the top and 3 cm at the bottom to keep the fittings free.

Subsequently, the second layer of the 5 cm strips is glued with wood construction adhesive on the glass or thin strips. Now place the glue clamps evenly spaced around and generously spray the glass joints with window jointing compound. For this purpose, a 30 mm deep and 35 mm wide groove must be milled in at the bottom, at the top it must be 20 x 20 mm (see drawings). It should the glue clamps attached to the side of the construction remain to avoid unnecessary tension in the material.

Subsequently will glued in the lower roller bar with construction adhesive, the upper one is screwed on with the small countersunk screws. Both strips should fit into the joint while sucking.

Now the wall mounting of the upper fitting is mounted: Should the door frame protrude over the wall, you have to make a spacer in the exact thickness + 1 mm clearance of the door frame from a wooden strip so that the door can be opened and closed. Finally, the door is pushed in and the stoppers and dampers of the upper fitting are mounted.
