Spatula technology refines the walls

Spatula technology has a significantly higher quality than a paper wallpaper. After all, you can always see how much trouble the handyman has made with it later. In addition, you will certainly find no second room with exactly the same decor.

Walls change with the spatula

Whether it is just a decorative plaster in the Mediterranean style or whether you want to bring a smooth and laborious spatula technique to the wall, the result will be unique in any case. However, the spatula technique also holds many years.

Especially because of the long durability of the spatula technique, you have to consider whether you want to have this decor in ten or 20 years on the wall. Removing the filling technique from the wall is not easy and fast.

Since removal takes just as much time in a structured filling technique as applying it, you should plan a longer term. This includes the decor, which must fit decades to this decor.

Marble on the walls

A white putty can be perfectly transformed into a deceptively real marble. This works both with smoothed putty and with a structure plaster.

It is practical to dye a part of the filler with a light gray finish and to incorporate something into the basic order for every third trowel. Later, the measles and cracks are then painted on the gray-white wall with a fine hair brush.

Different methods

The main distinction in the spatula technique is the structure of the plaster. The smoothed shapes are later better to use and decorate differently. But for the structured filler technique can be easily attached by a layman.

  • Structure plaster Mediterranean
  • Structure plaster modern
  • Fine plaster in coarse or fine grain
  • Smoothing spatula technique
  • Paving technique marble

Spatula technique with structure

Creating a Mediterranean style with spatula technology is relatively easy and cheap. With a little practice each layman creates this work in their own living room.

But if it is not your own living room, but a rented, you should ask the landlord before the measure. Since the structure of the new plaster is to represent a restless aged wall in an ancient Vinca, it is correspondingly uneven.

These bumps can be smoothed later difficult again. When you move out, or when the taste changes, it can be tedious to put the walls back in their old, smooth state.

Structure brings life to the wall

You can easily create a Mediterranean style in any living room with a simple putty and a spatula. Anyone who uses a dyed filler cream on the one hand has less work and, on the other hand, minor damage is almost invisible later.

The mass is brought to the wall with a trowel and distributed there with even trains. Then you structure the work with a spatula or a trowel. This should be the size of the desired pattern.

Structured putty works in the rental property

If you do not want to ask the landlord for a written permission to beautify the walls with a structured spatula technique, then there is another way to wall design.

Anyone who buys wall-sized panels of waterproof plywood in the hardware store can decorate them well with the spatula technique and simply hang them invisibly on the wall. When moving this panel is then taken.

On the back of the waterproof plywood you can not only very well attach the attachments invisibly. It can also be around the edge, attach LED strip lights to emphasize the plastic effect.

Smoothing spatula technique

The smooth spatula technique makes a lot and looks extremely noble and expensive. But she also does a lot of work. Extensive and careful preliminary work on the wall is necessary. After that, many more operations are required.

The wall must be absolutely flat and stable and no dents, scratches or wallpaper remains on the wall. After several sanding strokes of the spatula technique you have to polish this variant several times and may even grow.

The result is really spectacular and breathtaking. The high-gloss surface could even serve as a mirror, as strong as the gloss can be.

Cover smoothed spatula technique

Of course, in contrast to the structured version, the smoothed trowelling technique can easily be over-papered. Even the painting is no problem later. The paint only has to adhere to the ground.

If the area has been waxed, you may have to roughen it in order to be able to later distribute glue or paint on it. Under certain circumstances, the wax must first be leached or pre-treated with a deep base.

Overlay tiles

If you want to fill in the old unsightly tiles in the bathroom or in the kitchen, both the filler and the preparatory work must meet special requirements. For both works one should only use finished mass, which is intended for this purpose.

In both cases, you should not only grind the old tiles, but also lye. In the kitchen there is greasy dirt on the tiles and in the bathroom are of course still soap scraps on the tiles. You often do not see either, but the putty does not stick to it.

Fill tiles in the kitchen

The old tiles usually have to be sanded and a primer or a deep base must be applied. Then you can use a ready-made filler, which is based mostly for this application on epoxy resin.

But you should really only rely on the manufacturer's information, because the rising fat steam in the kitchen can replace many materials from the old tiles. In addition, the fat vapor can penetrate into the finished spatula work, if you choose the wrong material here.

Refine bath with spatula technique

In contrast to the spatula technique in the kitchen, the putty in the bathroom must withstand other attacks. Here, especially hot steam with an unsuitable filling technique can ruin the whole work and in the worst case even create a completely moldy wall full of mushrooms.

Which mass for which technique

For about 20 years, the spatula technology is again modern. But at that time the do-it-yourselfers and the professional craftsmen had to deal with home-made or very expensive imported fillers.

In the meantime, there are at least 50 different fillers that are already finished in a bucket. In addition, countless masses are available, which you can touch yourself. So the market is a bit confusing to say the least.

Buy finished mass

Various products even allow use in the bathroom or in the kitchen. This is because these fillers consist of a liquid plastic, so to speak. In contact with the air, it hardens and forms a resistant waterproof surface.

Mix the filler yourself

Spackling compounds, which you can even touch, often contain at least parts of gypsum. As a result, they are not waterproof after drying. If you still want to use them in the kitchen or in the bathroom, then you would have to paint clearcoat over it.

Tips & Tricks

The spatula technique is difficult to remove, so you should plan the work well and always get a written approval from the landlord, if you want to change its walls so sustainable.
