Plan and fix a natural stone tabletop

A table top made of natural stone is chosen especially for couch and order tables. If a flat and stable substructure exists, the loose application usually already provides sufficient stability. Load calculations should provide the right balance between weight and resistance to breakage when fitting a dining table.

Loose edition on flat and small tables

Granite, marble and slate are popular rocks for a tabletop. In addition to the decorative aspect, they bring a relative insensitivity. The dead weight is used in many constructions as a sufficient stability factor.
Plate thicknesses from twenty millimeters can be placed on a substructure, especially for smaller tables without separate attachment.

Typical substructures of smaller tables, for example, consist of perpendicularly interconnected support plates made of the same natural stone from which the plate is made. The support points can be supported with adhesive felt feet. If the stone slab must be secured against slipping, as it should necessarily be the case with larger table types, suction cups offer a good attachment possibility.

Safe hold with suction cups

Similar to fixing table legs to a glass top, only smooth bottoms are available. Special suction cups are suitable for connecting and fixing without drilling directly with the table legs or on a substructure.

The substructure must be adapted to the weight, in particular with its lateral statics. Too weak and laterally insufficient exercise capabilities create a health-endangering risk. If the table top "crashes" or the table "collapses", the weight can cause serious injury to the table users.

Free-floating or stored in the frame

For writing and dining tables, a continuous natural stone slab can be placed on the substructure. If lateral slippage is to be excluded, storage in a wooden frame is a good alternative not only for decorative reasons. The same applies to a tabletop made of concrete.

Instead of a continuous overall plate, a natural stone slab can also be assembled from individual tiles. The advantage is above all the lower weight, since the tile thickness can be kept lower. An appropriate framework must be planned, especially for self-construction.

Tips & Tricks

For the care of your natural stone surfaces, special stone oil is recommended for regular polishing. By oiling, the pores close and the table top becomes less sensitive.
