Clean tiles after grouting

Anyone who has worked for the first time as a tiler and is done with the grouting of tiles, often wonders how he can clean the tiles. Many do-it-yourselfers fear that the grout would be wiped out when cleaning.

Remove grout

Nobody should be afraid, he could completely wash out the grout when cleaning. A do-it-yourselfer should have a lot more worried that he'll scrape the tiles themselves when cleaning. But the problem is solved with a little caution and a lot of water quickly.

Step by step free tiles from grout

  • water
  • dish soap
  • sponge
  • rubber lip
  • microfiber cloths
  • bucket

1. Remove coarse residues

When you are done with the grouting, you can already make an advance payment for the cleaning. The best thing to do is to pull the rubber lip with which you also applied the grout a few more times over the tiles.

Rinse the lip but often in between with clear water in the bucket. Under no circumstances should you rinse such things in the sink or in the kitchen sink. The remaining grout would settle in your pipes and clog them up.

2. Wash and wipe

With a wet sponge, you can now perform the second cleaning. Again, you should constantly rinse the sponge with clear water. Do not worry, you can not wash out the grout.

3. Post-cleaning

With a microfibre cloth, which is still very wet in the first step, you can now clean the tiles in the last cleaning step. The less grout you can see on the tiles, the drier your microfibre cloth can become.

4. Dry and check

The tiles can then be dried off with a dry or moist microfibre cloth. Look from different perspectives on the tiles, if there is still any grout. If necessary, clean these areas, otherwise you will have a cement curtain on the tile.

Tips & Tricks

Depending on how sensitive the tile surface is, you should pay attention to a particularly fine-grained and homogeneous product when buying the grout.

In the past, the tiles were sometimes simply grouted with cement mortar. However, this is only practicable with through-dyed porcelain stoneware, as otherwise there will be scoured surfaces.
