Dispose of a toilet

A lot has happened in sanitary engineering in recent years. Add to this the great "water thirst" that many older toilet flushes still have. Thus, toilet renovations and modernizations are currently in the trend, as has been the case for a long time. But with the bath or toilet renewal also falls a lot of garbage. This quickly raises the question of where to dispose of the old sanitary facilities like the toilet.

Numerous reasons speak in favor of renewing the bath and WC

Almost every decade has its own unique design trends. For a long time, toilets were affected. Fortunately, that has changed fundamentally. Allowed is what pleases. This also makes more practical designs come true (not infrequently, there were preferences for dark colors, in which case the whole bathroom is accordingly dark and unfriendly).

In addition, sanitary technology is in daily use. Use and age traces are therefore unavoidable. Many reasons that can speak for a renewal of bathroom and toilet. Depending on the renovation effort, a lot of garbage will be collected:

  • old pre-wall installation (metal frame with plastic cistern)
  • Plastic pipes
  • Toilet bowl ceramics
  • other plastics such as toilet seat or toilet lid
  • Washbasin (usually also sanitary porcelain)
  • old bath or shower trays (metal enamelled or acrylic)
  • Urinals (which may be filled with a chemical barrier fluid)

Where to dispose of bath and toilet components?

Basically, an entire bathroom or a toilet can of course be disposed of via an ordered construction container. Nevertheless, for the sake of the environment, a sorting out should also take place here:

  • Plastics (plastic cistern, pipes, acrylic parts)
  • Metals (enamelled shower and bathtubs, fittings)
  • Sanitary porcelain (sink, urinals, toilet bowl)

The ceramic parts can either be disposed of directly into the rubble container or in the recycling center in the building rubble. Often, a debris container makes sense, because even old tiles from a toilet or a bathroom must be beaten and then disposed of. Plastic parts such as toilet seat or toilet lid are dismantled and disposed of with other plastics. A special attention should be owed here anhydrous urinals. For a urinal to be operated anhydrous, a barrier liquid is needed.

Possible features of the urinal

This is best compared with oil on water: oil floats on water and thus closes it upwards. This is also the way the barrier fluids for urinals work. The manufacturer of these fluids will tell you if there are any special requirements for proper and environmentally sound disposal.

Metals and plastics (a lot of acrylic in the sanitary area)

Both metals and plastics should be separated and preferably disposed of in the recycling center in the appropriate areas. In this way, these recyclables can then be recycled and returned to the goods cycle.

So you should not dispose of bathroom and toilet

Perhaps one or the other reader has experienced it himself: just a few decades ago, it was often the case that old bathtubs and sanitary ceramics were simply buried somewhere in the garden. That's not a good idea. After all, most of the substances do not rot and would remain in the same place after 200 years or more. We have been over-exploiting the planet for many centuries and throughout the 20th century.
